Help with remote copy (rcp)

I am trying to copy a file (and when that works it will be 2 files) remotely from one Xserve to another.

The source is running 10.3.9 Server and the destination 10.4.6.

I am using:
% sudo rcp file admin@192.168.0.10:/Users/admin/Documents
Password: <enter local admin password>

I was wondering if this would fail if the source and destination machines had different admin passwords.

Otherwise, why does it tell me 'Connection refused'?

Why don't you try running scp instead? It will prompt you for a password. You can also copy over your public key and it will work without a password, even if the passwords are different.

It doesn't matter if the passwords are different. The prompt is for the password for the remote account, admin@192.168.0.10, not the local one. But do yourself a favor and set up ssh for secure password-free copying with scp.

It either means that the firewall is blocking this port or that rshd isn't running.

And as others have suggested scp is better. Unless you want other people to know you
admin password. which is sent over the network in clear text, when using rcp.

My bad...the password prompt, no doubt, is in response to sudo, in which case you should enter the local admin password, just as you indicated.
