Importing music from an external cd drive to itunes

I connected my cd burner to my desktop put in a cd, then it downloaded into the itunes libraray, so I thought. The name of the songs came up, the artist name came up, and it even showed the green arrow that meant it downloaded. The time came up on every song the same with 789 minutes. I tried to listen to a song and it didn't work.

I then sent an email to apple support and they had me uninstall quicktime and itunes then resinstall. That didn't work. I then called the tech support and the first guy, who I couldn't understand had me delete the library xml file then reinstall it, that didn't work but just gave me duplicates on everything. Then I called back and the girl Jessie that answered wouldn't listen to my problem and hung up on me, so I called back a third time and the guy said he couldn't help because it was running on windows.

Any idea what this issue is? All I want to do is make my life easier and use the external drive to download my music so I can put it on my ipod.

Ok so wait, I am confused. You put the CD into the external drive, a few moments later it shows up in iTunes? Then what? How did you do about "downloading" it to iTunes? The right way is to IMPORT it.

Yes I Import it. Anything I put in any cd player defaults to the itunes. It comes up in the library, asks if I want to Import it and it does, so I think. The title comes up, the artist comes up, the label image comes up, even the little green arrow comes up showing that it is working, but the time is the same for everything 789.xx. Within seconds I think it is imported. Do you think it's somewhere else??

This solution works. To be specific, go to edit, then preferences, then advanced, then hit the importing tab and disable the error correction. I use an external cd drive to save my expensive laptop drive.

Hi,

I have the same problem! I place the cd in my external cd/dvd burner and the song list appears in itunes, but when I go to play them nothing happens and when I go to import them I get the same result.

Did you find out a way to get an external burner to work with itunes?

The CD that you're importing, is it a music cd (about 20 tracks at most) or an MP3 cd (which would store upwards of 100?)

Well that certainly isn't right. Importing an CD should take at least several minutes, often more.
You say it asks you if you want to import it?
Hmmm, I am not sure what is going on.

iTunes prefs -> Advanced - Importing.
Uncheck "*Use error correction when reading audio CDs*".

Reimport the CD.

i am also having trouble importing. i checked the advanced burning preferences and error correction was already unselected. but songs are still showing 789 minutes..
