I haven't gotten my iphone yet, it's still in the mail, but I want to have everything ready so that I can get it workign ASAP. How do I port a number over from a verizon phone to the iphone and what can I do to make the process easier? Thanks in advance.
When you activate your iPhone via iTunes for the first time there will be an option for you to transfer your existing number.. the whole process is very easy, although some people have reported that it can take awhile for the activation and the porting of your number to actually finalize.
with verizon you may want to wait until the next day, call and ask them at what time your contract expires.
I just switched my number from verizon but broke the contract 😟 I'll be getting a nice letter in the mail pretty soon 🙂
You can port your number away from Verizon at any time, but if you do it before your contract expires you will have to pay an early cancellation fee. For most carriers, that fee is either $175 or $200.
i was wondering, if I transfer only my # from a verizon family plan, will i still have to pay a cancellation fee for my phone, because my other family members would still be using verizon.
You should call and ask Verizon about that. My guess is that so long as the plan remains in place with other lines on it, you would not get a cancellation fee, but why risk it when you can know for sure with one phone call?
I was with Verizon also prior to my iPhone. I believe it took the port process only about 20-30 minutes. You can always call the AT&T Porting dept. They can expedite it and get it working while you're on the (land) phone with them. Good luck and enjoy!
I Just got an iPhone yesterday and finished the activation around 3:30 P.M. and got this email:
*Congratulations, AT&T is now transferring your existing mobile number to this iPhone.*
*Your iPhone mobile number will be:*
* *
*Your iPhone may now make outgoing calls but will be unable to receive calls on your existing mobile number until the transfer is complete.*
*You will receive an email confirmation once your mobile number transfer is complete. If you have not done so already, please connect your iPhone to your computer now to complete this activation.*
Its been about 19 hours and the number still hasnt been ported over. Who should I call to see what the problem is?
I would say that since you can already make calls on your iPhone with this # that you've already ported, then you should be calling AT&T. The # has been ported over otherwise you wouldn't be able to make calls. It just hasn't finalized yet. It sure wouldn't hurt to give them a call though.
Oh by the way, it would be better if next time you have a question, that you start your own thread. That way your questions would get proper attention and possible answers quicker.
They are closed today, I think the reason I cant receieve calls is that my tmobile phone still has service which means the porting isnt complete. If the porting was complete the tmobile phone wouldnt have service. When I had my tmobile phone it didnt have a voice plan so when I try to call that phone it says "At the subscribers request this phone cant accept incoming calls" Im just gonna have to call At&t and or t-mobile tomorrow.
when you port the number does it automaticlly cancel the service or do i have to call up tmobile and cancel it? The only reason i ask is that when i turn on the tmobile phone i can still use all the features. I dont want to end up paying for both services.
