Has anyone been able to get a refund from American Express?

I understand their Best Value Guarantee has been discontinued as of Oct 2006. Is there another service they offer that would help me get $200 back?

I have an AMEX Platinum card which I used to buy my iPhone in early July. When I called them just after the price drop they told me that they no longer had any price protection program. A couple of weeks later, just after I got my $100 credit from Apple, I came home and there was a message on my machine from Amex saying that because they appreciate my business they would be making a courtesy credit of $200. It posted to my account the next day.

I just received $100 credit from American Express! They will be my ONLY credit card I will ever use. Great customer service. I will never purchase an Apple product again. And screw all of you Apple elitists! Here is the letter:

Thank you for choosing to use your American Express Card for your purchases. We are pleased
to inform you that payment has been approved for your Purchase Protection Plan claim. A
payment in the amount of $100.00 has been issued in relation to your claim.
We arrived at our claim payment amount based upon the following:
This credit is being made outside of our retail policies, given the unique circumstances and our
deep appreciation of your relationship with American Express.
If you have any questions, please call your Purchase Protection Plan Customer Service
Department at 1-800-322-1277. A representative is available for you 24 hours a day, seven days
a week.
Thank you again for using your American Express Card!
Sincerely,

Wow!

Thanks, guys. I called AmEx a couple of weeks back, and was told the Purchase Protection plan didn't apply. When I saw these notes (I put a bunch of dollars on that card, and I've had it forever!) I called back.
This time, was I was given that same 1-800 number that's listed above, and told to call. I've now got a claim number, too 🙂
(They did say that because Apple was reimbursing $100, if it was approved, it would be for less)

Thanks, AmEx!
