Brightness control not working.

I unfortunately have the same problem running my Mac Pro with OS X 10.4.10 and one of those new Apple keyboards.

In addition, the brightness level option in System Preferences > Displays is gone for my 23" Apple Cinema Display.

Hopefully, there will be a fix soon...

Got exactly the same issue. F1-F2 are not working (no icon). Also lost brightness control in Display preferences.

I have the same problem, hopefully someone from Apple reads these posts, I called Apple care and the guy escalated my call to an engineer. They were in the process of having me send back my Mac, I was about to do it until I read this post so *Thank You*. I hope Apple has a fix for us soon.

I have the same issue... also seems to be related to the last OS update. The workaround works... but I would think Apple should fix this ASAP.

Yes this needs to fixed, this is unacceptable.

Update:

Brightness control on my MacBook Pro is back now that I upgraded to Leopard! I tried pretty much everything to get the control back on Tiger, including reinstalling the OS and nothing helped. But Leopard upgrade fixed it.

I'vejust upgraded to Leopard. It fixed the problem. I've recovered the brightness controls in Preferences>Display as well as keyboard F1-F2.

I don't think spending $130 to upgrade to a new OS is an acceptable "bugfix". This was something they introduced by Apple with a previous Mac OS update.

"Please buy the new OS" is something Microsoft would say...

I was also at Tiger 10.4.10 with a Macbook Pro Core Duo 2Ghz - F1 and F2 weren't doing anything nor showing any icons on the screen - upgraded to Leopard to test and brightness controls are currently working again

Brand new Mac Book Pro out of the box 2.2ghz running Tiger 10.4.10

F1 and F2 keys not working, brightness in the system control panel doesn't increase or decrease the brightness if the screen dims the only way i've found to get it back is to reset the PRAM

Absolutely useless, problem is if it's a firmware issue you cannot roll back firmware, only solution at the moment is send back to Apple or wait for a fix which could be months

I've booted from a firewire disk running 10.4.9 and the problem is still there so I would say this is more than likely a firmware issue

OK OK with some further testing I installed the OS from scratch 10.4.10 cd that came with the Mac and all was ok (erase and install)
Ran all updates individually and the problem ceases to exist
It would suggest to me that Apple have updated something on newer hardware which means imaging or installing older versions of OS may not work
Solution - backup everything and start from scratch
