Supported Disc Not Available error

I have anew mac book pro that is about a month old now. I've never used the DVD player until today trying to watch a movie. I got an error message that states after I pop the DVD in : Supported Disc not Available

I've tried several DVD's and I have the same message with each one. I'm playing a cd right now while I type this. Any thoughts on this problem??

MBP 17", Mac OS X (10.4.10), Intel Core 2, 2.4 GHZ, 4GB Ram,

Run /Utilities/Disc Utility and 'Repair Permissions' on the hard drive then try the DVD again.

Worked for me, too. Funny thing, though: No permissions error or fix was recorded. Also, when it played, I got the "last time played" dialogue, and it started about 10 seconds in.

I too wonder what's going on, but more importantly, if Apple is aware of it.

Hi - we have the same problem and I tried this fix but the repair permissions buttons are greyed out when I select the DVD Rom - if I change to the hard drive then they become active again.
Can you suggest any reasons why this is ? We are logged in with administrator rights - grateful for any assistance 🙂
