connecting ps2 keyboard and mouse to imac via ps2 usb adapter

hi all,
a mac newb here,I have an imac g3 that I just purchased on ebay; all seems to be in good working order; a keyboard or mouse wasn't incl in the sale so have bought a brand new ps/2 to usb adapter - adapter supports win, mac, linux, no driver disc supplied

The computer boots to the desktop but there is no response from keyboard & mouse via the usb adapter. I believe the os is 9.1 or 9.2 x plus os x 10.2 jaguar is installed in there somewhere.I don't have install/restore disks,
any help would be greatly appreciated
Regards,
Steve

steve33g3, Welcome to the discussion area!

The best solution is to get a real USB keyboard and mouse. They don't have to be Apple devices but you shouldn't use any of those PS2/USB adapters.

I thought those adapters were for the other direction. For connecting a USB device to a PS2 equipped computer. I don't know if they work the other direction.
