Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

How do you freeze a row or column?

I am trying to freeze the top row of my spreadsheet so that when I scroll down, I can still see the column headings. I know you can do this in Microsoft Excel, but I cannot find a similar command in Numbers. Please help!

It's a common misconception, fueled by many peoples hopes that they can drop excel. Numbers was NOT meant to replace excel across the board. You hit one of the 'groups' accurately, those that want to be "creative with data".

But that does not mean that it cannot be used by more aggressive professionals. Scour this site and the Numberstemplate.com website for many ways that you can use it.

I found that just by modifying how I thought about structuring my data (more like a Database than a classical XL spreadsheet), I was able to produce some great results better than in other programs.

Think about how your data is grouped, in other programs everything is forced into grids of columns and rows because you needed the data right next to each other because of *The restrictions of that program*. Think about WHY you HAVE to do things the way you do in other programs. Its forced habit because of how it works.

now we rethink why and find different solutions. It will take some time, so it would be best to do over the holidays when you have a little time to sit down and play. And I mean play. Don't go right for the jugular and get your office work done, do something for home that will help you learn the lessons of how to work the program and think in the "Numbers Way".

Hope this gives you some hope and something to think about while learning, Let us know if you need help,
Jason

I see many people saying things like " do we want an excel clone", etc. Well of copurse not, but we also don't want to lose a very good feature of every other spreadsheet app on the market.

I have a wide spreadsheet and need to scroll over and fill in columns. My simple work-around is to select the entire row, and that ID's it when I scroll to it.

But Apple, if you are listening. Freezing is a good thing!! Please try and add.

Thanks for listening.

John

Hello

How must we tell you that?

*We already wrote that MANY times,*
*neither the product manager in charge of Numbers nor other members of the team visit this forum.*

*If you really want that they read your request, go to "Provide Numbers Feedback" in the "Numbers" menu and describe what you want.*
