MSN email setup

Anyone know the settings for a msn.com email account. MSN's website stinks and I don't want to waste any more time searching.

Thanks

MSN/Hotmail will not work on th iPhone becuase it is http based email. The iPhone will only handle POP3 and IMAP related email. I had to purchase izymail.com for a very small yearly fee which works flawlessly in transferrying my msn email account. It sets up well with Outlook 2003 and I have had no problems other then my own stupidity in setting it up under POP instead of IMAP. Also one of the security updates affected it briefly, but after rebuilding the account it actually works better and faster. Hope that helps.

Good Luck!

You can configure Hotmail to work on the iPhone. It's working great on mine!! You have to upgrade to a Hotmail Plus account (although, apparently they will be offering POP3 on free accounts, as well, sometime within the next year). It sounds like POP3 on the paid Hotmail accounts is something that was just "officially" enabled last week. I found an official announcement from one of the Lead PMs for Hotmail - take a look, here:

I just upgraded my Hotmail account to Hotmail Plus yesterday and now my mail works from my iPhone (it was not working yesterday before I upgraded my account). Here are the iPhone mail settings I am using successfully (the email addresses and passwords are just examples, of course):

Account: On

*Account Information:*
Name: John Smith (note: enter your own name)
Address: example@hotmail.com (note: enter your full Hotmail email address)
Description: Hotmail

*Incoming Mail Server:*
Host Name: pop3.live.com
User Name: example@hotmail.com (note: enter your full Hotmail email address)
Password: password (note: enter your Hotmail password)

*Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP):*
Host Name: smtp.live.com
User Name: example@hotmail.com (note: enter your full Hotmail email address)
Password: password (note: enter your Hotmail password)

*Advanced Settings:*
Incoming Uses SSL: On
Outgoing Uses SSL: On
Authentication: Password
Delete from Server: When removed from Inbox (or your preferred option)

That's it - I hope everything works for you, as well. Good luck!

I don't have MSN Premium (I'm using Hotmail Plus), so I can't 100% confirm... but according to the article I cited above ( http://mailcall.spaces.live.com/Blog/cns!CC9301187A51FE33!44348.entry) the Lead PM for Hotmail clearly stated the following:

"PS - please note that I said Hotmail Plus users and not MSN Premium users. We are working to offer everyone POP access eventually, but for now, Hotmail Plus users are the only ones that can do so."

According to that statement, it sounds like POP is not yet available for MSN Premium, but I would call MSN customer service to verify.

Cheers!

It doesn't. I have MSN Premium and I found an easy solution to getting your MSN email on your iPhone.

First, I would create an account either for AOL, Yahoo, or Gmail.

Second, on your computer, go to hotmail.com and sign into your account. Go to the options section and find where you can change the setting so that your email messages will be forwarded to another account (sorry, I don't remember exactly where all the links are on the hotmail site).

Finally, go to the email application on your iPhone and set up the account you have or created on AOL, Yahoo or Gmail. That's it. Worked for me with no need to download any programs.

That's great to hear. Just to confirm - are you saying that your email address ends with "@msn.com" and it is working properly?

I wasn't sure whether or not the settings I listed above would work for the "@msn.com" accounts (I only know for sure that it works with "@hotmail.com" accounts). I've had multiple people ask me about the "@msn.com" accounts, but since I only have a "@hotmail.com" email address, I haven't been able to confirm either way.

Thanks!

Yeah - that happened to me as well. I did two things... 1.) go into settings -> mail, and then under "Messages" change the "show" option to 200 Recent Messages. 2.) go back to the inbox, it should download a bunch more messages... then scroll to the bottom, it should have a button that you can press to get more messages. Keep pressing that until you have all your messages.

Going forward, the new messages will come in and appear at the top of the inbox, as you would expect.

Hope that helps.
