With the PCI fan exhaust card and nap mode from chud tools, is my system going to run cool now? Last night before this - the system was running at close to 135 degrees fahrenheit.
I don't know what a normal temp range is for a fast dual-processor desktop G4, but I doubt very much that 135°F should be any cause for concern — and if your machine is now running cooler than that, so much the better. I base my comments on the fact that my 1998 Powerbook G3 routinely ran at 145-160°F; its fan never came on until it reached 160° and ran only until the temp fell below 158°, and it commonly peaked at 165° before the fan cooled things down. It once ran for about two hours at 180-185° with its fan howling the whole time, when I was forced to use it heavily in a 100° environment. It still runs perfectly today, never having been repaired in any way except that I replaced its hard drive seven years ago. I've also read lately that various Powerbook G4 models' fans don't come on until they reach at least 140-145°F. Of course temps vary from one part of a computer to another, with the processor core(s) being the hottest place(s). But if a Powerbook, with all its components jammed tightly together and very little internal space for air circulation even when its fan(s) is/are running, can operate safely at 180°+, then I'm sure nothing in your G4 is going to be harmed at 135° or less.
