AEBS 802.11n, Crashing while using bittorrent

Hi, I have recently purchased an AEBS 802.11n (gigabyte ed. and using the 7.2.1 firmware) and am experiencing some problems using bittorrent.

First off, I use azureus for my torrents, and with my former linksys router I had no issues. However since purchasing the AEBS I have tried multiple torrents now, and seemingly randomly during the transfer I loose wired/wireless connectivity to my router and am unable to restore it. When looking at the actual base station though the status light is still green, but going through my mbp the device will not appear when I scan for base stations. The only way to fix this problem is to unplug/replug the router.

This happened with the first AEBS and thinking it may be an error with the actual router, I returned it. However, after unpacking the new one, configuring it... I am having the exact same issue. I haven't experienced the router crashing any other times outside of using bittorrent, so I am unable to pinpoint whether this is something random or not. However it is almost a sure bet that letting azureus run for a few minutes will crash it. Furthermore upon restarting the router, all of its logs seem to clear so I can't even begin to troubleshoot this.

I can't see how a $60 linksys router is able to outperform this very nice offering from apple, and I really would like to see this problem fixed. I hope this doesn't come down to tweaking some rare setting in the bittorrent client as I have many people that use my network weekly and it will be an increasable pain to take them through some unique setup which should not be required.

If anyone has any ideas let me know, I am fairly competition with computers and networking issues and willing to do whatever is needed to fix this. Thanks in advance.

i am having the same issues as everyone else. "using Azureus airport drops, however light remains green, to get it back online unplug AEBSn and plug it back in". What i wanted to know was is anyone using a VPN to connect? I suspect that the VPN is to blame not Azureus. Anyone else have this issue with the VPN?

Has anyone else tried the following steps, they helped reduce crashes on my 7.2.1

1. In azureus>plugins I turned off UPnp
2. I limited Azureus max global connections to 90
3. I limited my upload as usual (21), and download to (90) (i raised this every few hours and crashes didn't come back)
4. In azureus>plugins I turned off Database DB

Since my post I tried some different things and on my setup *changing the IPv6 setting to "Local"* on the AEBS seems to have solved the problem. Tried downloading using BT and other methods yesterday and now have an "uptime" of more than 24 hours where before it was 1.5h at most. I have the most recent firmware and updates, hardware is MBPro C2D & gigabit AEBS. Now I understand this is not a "real" fix, just a workaround and YMMV, but until Apple gets around to do something about it...

edit: UPnP is off for Azureus

Thanks nescio! That did it!

I had a similar issue where there would be extremely high latency (400-3000 ms) to the router, frequent disconnects and packet loss when a wireless client was running Azureus or playing multiplayer games. Changed the IPv6 setting to "local-link only" and now, the connection is rock solid, and latency to the router while running Azureus is only 1 or 2 ms.

I haven't had any crashes for weeks. I did have them with my first router and with this one as well, but something I did stopped them - I wish I could say what it was.

I did stop using Azureus and now use Transmission instead - I wouldn't assume that the client makes no difference.

The other thing I noticed was that using any wireless security led to large numbers of receive errors - so I turned that off - but I had stability before that.

Best of luck.

I have tried what was mentioned about the ipv6 and setting it to "link-local only" as opposed to "tunnel". I also set-up a DHCP reservation (this is what the AEBSn calls it, i call it static ip address) for the computer using the Bit-torrent and the vpn. This seems to have solved all of the problems. Oh once these settings are made I reset my ISP modem and did a soft reset on the AEBSn. However every week or so it seems to hic-up (depends on your bit-torrent / vpn usage) so i simply unplug the router and plug it back in and everything goes back to a functional state.

I've got the exact same problem here as well, it's simply driving me nuts. I got it whether I use Azureus or not, doesn't seem to make a difference. The worst thing is that even if I power cycle the AEBS, I still have to restart my Mac to regain my network connection.... is there a trick to avoid this extra step while we're waiting for a real fix?

I originally had the IPv6 set to "link-local only" and that was causing me to disconnect every minute (every time the bit-torrent picks up speed), and then i read the wiki link that someone posted above and it said to switch it to "tunnel" so i did. That reduced the disconnection rate, but it still does once it once in a while.

As far as setting a static ip, I've already assigned a static IP for my computer using the bit-torrent and also forwarded the port required by the bit-torrent app.

I'm getting so frustrated with the AEBS. Does anyone know how I ***** to Apple?
