Iphone case or no iphone case, that is the question?

For those who have used cases and have not used them for there iphone, is it better to use one, or not? I have read in many places of users getting scratches coming from cases. So what is the overal opinion of putting a case on a iphone, and while im here, has anyone used those screen protectors that apple has?

I agree the iPhone screen is very durable and scratch resistant. However if you do feel so inclined to get a screen protector...just to make yourself feel better (like me)...I wouldn't go with any other brand besides the invisibleSHIELD.

Definitely not just any run-of-the-mill screen protector brand. My friend has the invisibleSHIELD on his LG Chocolate and I just purchased mine for the iPhone. Again...you probably don't really need a screen protector for the iPhone, but (for me at least) you feel more secure knowing that something is protecting the screen and the rest of the body of the iPhone.

Re: Screen protection, I have had my iPhone since launch day, have never had a screen protector, and have no scratches on the screen.

Re: Case protection, I found the case I bought and put on the phone on launch day was causing scratches on the chrome bezel. Once I removed the case (Incase rubber case) no further scratches have appeared.

I too had problems with scratches from my incase rubber sleeve. Fortunately, my phone crapped out and I received a new pristine one from apple. I keep it caseless. The screen is extremely scratch resistant (I wouldn't get a screen protector) and I love how thin the phone is. PC World put the phone through some pretty rigorous drop and scratching tests and the phone held up great- youtube it if you want to see the video.

Interesting - I also have an incase rubber skin that I purchased 45 days ago.

After reading all of the comments regarding scratches to the bezel I became concerned. Checked out and found no scratches on the iPhone shell.

Maybe I am carrying it differently than the posters to this thread but I do not understand the scratching issue.

My icase skin works fine.

Well I bought as case with my iPhone on launch day from AT&T it was a Belkin clear plastic case that used the belt clip as a swivel stand... it was a POS!.. i returned it the following day. the belt clip was not snug on anything an could just fall right out of your pocket or off your belt.
I then bought a the black side winder belt clip with pull out cord wrapper and bluetooth holder... it also came with a microfiber cleaning cloth and a screen protector sheet for 25 dollars in the apple store... holds the phone face out or in and swivels... and its extremely secure... a good find..

I got my phone the first week of issue and also was concerned that I was going to break the darn thing, scratch it or drop it. I purchased one of those little Incase rubber holders which is working for me. It protects the back of the unit by adding some padding so if you set it on a table or something it won't scratch the chrome. Reading the users manuel it appears that the glass is pretty tempered so I guess you would really have to gouge it someway to actually etch it. Hopefully in R&D testing Apple dropped it and slammed it around a bit. (kidding kind of)
I think the rubber case is good since it does not surround the entire phone like the fold over versions and leaves the face free. Hope this helps.

i use shield zone protection skins on all my apple products...... that keeps any and all scratches away...guaranteed... then to protect my products from getting dents, or cracks .from me being clumsy....on my iphone i have a rubber incase.....
the reason some cases cause more scratches then if you went without is becasue there is a slight movement going on..and if you have one small grain of anything.... inside your case..... now it becomes like sandpaper.....

there is a product out there that helps remove scratches from ipods...i dont know if they've come up with anything for the iphone ....... but its called "apple sauce" and its a 2 step polishing kit.....it did remove some scratches in the chrome on my ipod..... but be carefull around any ingraving you may have....

i do love shield zone products though..... i even have it on my MBP......

I'm sitting on the fence too about a case. Just the other day I found the pouch that ships with the iPod and tried that - it works great! I'm not a fan of having things on my belt and I don't like bulky cases/phones in my pocket - this keeps the phones slim design in my pocket and makes it easy to take in/out when I need to.

I use the iSkin case and it has survived very well since its release. I do not use the clear cover that comes with it, just the case. Yesterday, they sent me an email for a holster that is now available to early purchasers for 10 bucks off (it has been ordered). The only fault with it is the loose dust cover for the 30 pin port as it is a very small rubber piece that is not attached to the case. The headphone port cover is attached and helps keep lint and dust out of the ports. Not bulky.

Good Luck

Ive lost my rubber piece already. Im probably going to get the invisible shield protector, and use that in conjuction with the iskin case. I dont like leaving the glass exposed, but I also dont like the privacy screen that comes with the iskin.

I do use the clear plastic thing.

Otter makes a case similar to the iskin that looks like it may be a bit better.

I tried the black rubber Incase cover and found it to be very comfortable to hold the iPhone securely but it made it impractical to stuff the iPhone into my jean pocket. The friction just prevents you from getting it out easily.
I switched to the Marware Quick Vue case http://www.marware.com/PRODUCTS/iPhone-Cases/Quick-Vue-for-iPhone which I'm really happy with. The belt catch is secure and easy to open for taking on/off your belt, which is not true of others I tried. The case is plastic with rubberized surface with makes it easy to hold and stay clean. The open button works well. I found that iPhone is held securely inside but immediately the back left side of the iPhone would get tiny marks from the plastic ridge it rests on. I just cut a piece of a post-it note and placed it over the two ridges which is preventing the marking on the back of the iPhone case. The iPhone itself isn't getting any marks on it. I got it at the Apple store but don't see it on Apple's online store.

I see no reason for using the protective film included with the Marware case on my iPhone. The iPhone screen simply doesn't scratch with finger contact. It's like the crystal on a good watch. The Marware case includes the film if you want it and it also includes a large piece of that micro fiber cleaning cloth which works very well on the iPhone glass and your eye glasses.

I experimented with a couple of cases and have settled on a leather flip case from SENA. I also applied a screen protector that is made by case-mate. The iPhone may indeed be impervious to scratches, etc., but I do not want to take any chances. I love the SENA case. It is sleek, luxurious, protective, and has holes in all the right places. It also has an excellent belt clip system, which can be attached or not, depending on your preference. I clean the screen daily with iKlear solution and a microfiber cloth.

If you are teetering just pull the trigger and buy a case. A case is always a good idea to protect any phone at least the majority of the time. As far as which case to get that is up the individuals preferences. I love my ncase landscape folio. I do not like something wrapped around the phone 100 percent of the time. But others like the gel cases. I have heard the belkin acrylic case scratches the phone up. So I bough it just for the tray back on a plane (landscape movies) and do not intend to ever snap is closed.
