Just got my iPod Touch this afternoon. Was very excited and immediately started testing everything on it. However, I was very disappointed with the way it displays blacks and dark images in video and photos. A friend's iPhone didn't seem to have this problem. Saw a thread in the iPhone forums where someone complained and another person said theirs looked great. Did I get a bad unit? Anyone else experiencing this? Thanks for replies.
Please do post back with the result. I would go to the soho store today but I don't have my receipt with me in the office. Do you think I could do an exchange without it?
Yes, they have you in the system, but they don't do exchanges for hardware problems until you see a genius, I am 100 percent sure there are no genius bar reservations open anymore, the earliest one I got was for tomorrow at 5th avenue. But good luck, and if you do get an exchange, post here if your new unit is better.
I can get an appointment for 4:30 this afternoon at SoHo. Only thing is I'm just unsure if they even have any better units since they probably only got one crate of ipods, likely from the same batch. I'm not sure if I have time today to be the trailblazer in this issue.

I hate doing exchanges, especially with those geniuses, somehow they always make me feel like the bad guy. I remember trying to exchange a macbook with a totally washed out display, in the end the genius surrendered but it took like 30 minutes to convince him. I was within my 14 day return period so in the end I would have returned it anyways. The exchange laptop worked perfectly though.

I got mine in Los Angeles. This seems like a very widespread problem. I'm very disappointed with Apple. Have we heard from anyone out there who isn't having this issue? We still don't know if it is only our units or every Touch. Apple could have a big problem on its hands.
Yeah i was wondering the same thing about if its everyone. I did hear where all apple stores should be getting a shipment today at around 2, so maybe that's the good batch. My friend will be picking one up from that batch today & i will report back to tell you if he has any problems. I might also get mine today, so I will report back then too.
Please do, I am going to try for an exchange tomorrow, and if the new batches have this glitch fixed, I will have more leverage to get an exchange. I am still in my return period, so if all of them have this problem, I might have to return it and wait until Apple fixes this.
Yeah, it looks like some users are having better luck with this issue. Hopefully I'll get one from a different batch when I go tonight, presuming they'll even have it in stock.
