Just got my iPod Touch this afternoon. Was very excited and immediately started testing everything on it. However, I was very disappointed with the way it displays blacks and dark images in video and photos. A friend's iPhone didn't seem to have this problem. Saw a thread in the iPhone forums where someone complained and another person said theirs looked great. Did I get a bad unit? Anyone else experiencing this? Thanks for replies.

I've got the same problem here in sunny Southern California - as does one of my friends in Hawaii - so it's everywhere. I think the tolerance levels are different for different people, that's why some think they have it and others don't.

Those who haven't noticed yet will probably do so over the weekend.

Hopefully they'll come up with a solution to make everyone happy because you can't watch videos with the display the way it is currently.

I look forward to hearing the results of everyone's trips to see their respective "geniuses" tomorrow.

Zero issues exchanging it, Sergey (and group). And I specifically asked about returning the new one if I was unhappy with it. Again, no problem. They weren't helpful, because they don't really know what they're doing with these things yet - the genius hadn't even seen one close up until mine. He agreed with me about the deficiencies in the screen. So swap was easy.

Now I'm nervous - ordered my iTouch online and it will get tossed onto my porch by the courier in a few weeks time (CDN release date 28 Sep). Since I bought it online, +with engraving+, I'll be dead in the water wrt replacement if I get a unit with the faulty black rendering problem. And I live less than 8 kms (5 miles in American) from Apple's Canada HQ, how ironic this may be!

I hope the Apple QC folks in the Chinese factory will have fixed this production bug with our shipments, or that it may be fixed with a patch (less confident that it is), or a burn in issue (least convincing suggestion).

Thanks for the posted pics and comments. Good luck with your exchanges.

This isn't nice. I was really excited for this. Since I don't live never an Apple Store my grandfather is suppose to pick me up over at the Staten Island mall store. He would have gotten one today but they didn't have any 16 gb models in. I think I may hold off to get one until they hopefully fix this issue. Does it effect the menu screen though? I know that the home screen is a solid black so why isn't it messing with that? Whatever it is it has to be fixed. I'm not spending $400 on a device to get a bad screen.

I also read the PCMag review of the iPod and they didn't mention anything of the viewing problem. They just said that the iPhones look a tad bit better. I think a big issue like this would have been mentioned. I wish we could get some sort of response.
