I just switched from an old AirLink wireless router to an Airport Extreme, and now there is a PPPoE connection timer (showing HH:MM:SS) next to the airport icon in my menu bar. I would like to keep the airport icon while removing the timer, but I can't find anywhere to configure this.
In Internet Connect can disable both, but not the timer individually.
In system preferences open up network.
Go to the PPPoE button and click on it.
Near the bottom there should be "Show PPPoE status"
unclick the button
then click "apply now", that should do the job
Thanks for the reply Brian. The solution you suggest is not the answer to my problem though.
The "Show PPPoE status in menu bar" option was already unchecked. PPPoE is running on the Airport router, not the computer. What I'm seeing is a display of the connection time, in HH:MM:SS format, to the immediate right of the airport icon. It's different than the PPPoE status icon that appears when the "Show PPPoE status..." pref is checked.
There must be some other DSL+Airport Extreme users out there. Is everyone settling for this massive waste of menu bar space?
