iPod classic 160GB skipping songs

I bought a new 160GB iPod only four days ago. I've noticed a couple of problems:

1) When playing a playlist, the iPod will sometimes skip a song. For example, when song 1 is finished, it will play song 3. It skips only some songs, but they are always the same ones. The songs played perfectly on my 80GB 5.5G. Unless I manually select them, they won't play along in the playlist. I've tried restoring and I updated to 1.0.1 but it didn't help.

2) I noticed the battery meter jumps all over the place when selecting different things on the iPod, especially videos. One second it was 3/4 full, the next it was 1/4, then back to half, thten it goes back to normal. Maybe it was doing that because it's a new battery, but I did calibrate it last night (fully discharge and fully charge) so maybe that fixed it. Haven't tried it yet. But has anyone else encountered this?

Just bought my classic 80GB today and its doing the same thing. Its really
annoying. I would say that its definitely a software issue. I tried all the other suggestion and none of them worked. Finally I deleted one of the albums I was having the problem with from iTunes and purchased it AGAIN from the iStore(it was ripped from CD before). Ofcourse that worked.

I don't know if this is related to your problem. I have noticed a few songs skipping on my 160g classic. When I scroll through the song list in itunes, I find that the songs that skip all have a ⚠ symbol in the far left column.

For these songs I have deleted them off the ipod and reloaded them back on and they have played fine since.

Hope this helps.

I personally think it is something to do with the file itself.

My 60gb Photo did this as well, and I seem to think that my 30gb Video does it, but I am not entirely positive I have experienced this with the Classic. Usually backing up several times usually "makes" it play unless of course it's the first song.

That being said my Mp3's are from various sources and recording specs.

I think that I have found a solution, though it is hardly ideal.

Select the song/songs that are skipping>right click on one of the selected songs>click 'convert selection to mp3'

When I did this the songs that I were previously skipping played ok. However I had a lot of songs that were skipping and haven't checked them all yet so I'm not sure if this is a 100% solution. It also means that you will have a duplicate of the song so be sure to delete the correct one from your itunes library.

The other problem is that if you have a lot of skipping songs it can be a tedious task to identify and then 'convert' all of them. I just converted everything in my library however this took a very long time as I have 4000+ songs, so those of you with more are going to have to be patient if you do it this way! Then I had to make a duplicate folder of my iTunes songs so that when I cleared my library I wouldn't lose all of the 'converted songs'. I then added this duplicate folder to my library and so far ok.

Hope that this helps!!

I have an 80 GB iPod classic. I download weekly trance radio shows and split the two hour tracks with a free program CueSplitter. When I go into the album and want to the play the whole album straight through, it will not work. I will hear the end of say, track 2 approaching, and then the iPod will skip right to track 4, which disrupts the continuity of my listening experience. So then I have to hit back to go back to the song that was skipped. I have no problem listening to the song, but for some reason it doesn't like to play songs back to back. It likes to always skip over one. Really annoying.

here is how to restore to update 1.0.1 if you are having dificulties with 1.0.2 like i was too.

find the update 1.0.1 in my computer by searching for '' *.ipsw '' next you cut and paste the 2 files with the 1.0.2 in their names from there to the desktop in case you need it later, and then disable the automatcly check for updates and try to restore the ipod software, say no the pop up about would you like to enable updates or whatever and restore it and sync the songs again.

Thanks for everyone's help!

As I stated earlier, my problem was the 160 starting and playing part of a song, then skipping ahead. I think I have a remedy. So far anyway. It appeared that the song in the "Library" and in any "Playlists" was affected.

Go to the main "Music Library" and click on the faulty file. Right click it and "convert to mp3." When this is completed, delete the old file. This will delete it from the "Playlist," so you will have to reinsert it later.

Next, while still in the "Music Library," click on the new file and again right click it and "convert ID3 tags." Check "reverse unicode" and click OK. While the file is still selected, go to "Edit" and "copy" the file.

Go to the "Playlist" if it is on one or more and "paste" it. You can then move it to whatever position you want.

Hook up your iPod and "sync" the files. This has been working for me for 2 days. I didn't want to say anything until it appeared to actually work. Hope this helps the rest of you. A shame we pay good money for something and get no professional assistance.
