IPod dead. No lights, no playing, no detection on computer

My wife's ipod shuffle (gen 2) started acting up a week ago; a full charge would last only 30 minutes or so, and then after a few times of this,it won't recharge at all. No lights ever come on and there's no USB connection apparent on the computer.

I bought it for her more than 6 months ago but less that a year. I gather that full warranty coverage is out and a fixed US$30 (or C$40?) charge would apply?

Can I assume it's only the battery and could buy a replacement battery on the net somewhere to fix it? Are are the symptoms of a dead battery different? Should I expect this sort of failure every 10 months?

Thanks

I have found this answer in another topic, which has miraculously saved my iPod Shuffle. 😀

Quote: "And you will have to take me seriously here but, by using the on/off switch, turn it on, count 15 Mississippi and turn it off, counting 15 Mississippi. Do this three times, leave it in the off position and reconnect the ipod to the dock, then the dock to the computer."
