Ipod touch is recognized as a camera

Nothing new here the usual Ipod Touch is recognized as a camera and wont work on my 32bit Vista laptop. After uninstalling reinstalling, messing around with drivers, nothing im tired. The Ipod touch does work on my Xp desktop but its old and Id rather have my laptop and IpT playing nice together. I know that apple was lazy and basically used the same **** firmware as a the iphone. So heres to hoping Apple figures something out.

If your iPT isn't charging off your computer, then the USB socket is not supplying the juice. The computer does not need to support the iPT in order to charge it. In fact, that is all those AC adapters do, they supply the necessary voltages to a USB socket, thus allowing you to charge your iPod.

Incidentally, that is most likely the reason your computer does not recognize your iPT.... You should try to plug in the iPT to a rear USB port (I had the same problem with a Zune).

I'm having the same problem. I tired the method above and it didn't work. I did do something simliar though. I made it go into recovery mode and had windows install it. Then I gave windows the drivers and itunes finally saw that something was there. Well it then tells me I must recover before I can do anything else, YET it fails to recover and comes up with a error. This is getting annoying because I have yet to be able to use my ipod because it still shows the "cable and itunes icon" on my ipod. I don't get why its doing this because the last ipod touch I had worked fine untill it froze up on me and I exchanged it for this new one. Now I can't get anywere with my new one. I'm going to try to get it to work on my friends computer and if it still doesn't work I'm just going to get my money back. Its been nothing but trouble for me.

Thank You! Thank You!

There is nothing worse than shelling out $400 bucks, all the excitent of finally splurging on this thing, then having to sweat beads in front of my computer for 2 hours to finally get it to work. Really, Apple, so famous for their products, should be ashamed.

This said, thank you. It now works. I did, after updating the driver, have to re-install I-tunes to get it to work.

Thank you again.

IT WORKED!!!!!! , Thanks so much for thsi post. The customer service at the apple store by the so-called Geniuses is horrible. No ne had a clue to what was going on. All they did was connect the Ipod to a MAc and reset it. I went home and my problem was still there. I had to go back to the apple tore the next day and they exchanged the touch for new one. Still , same crap with the Ipod being recognized as a camera. Thank god I found this post. You saved me ANOTHER trip to Apple, and Apple should thank you because they also were saved a returned touch. THANKS AGAIN !!!! ...oh by the way, ***DO NOT INSTALL THE LATEST "software Update" This will immediately mess up the Driver again. ***

I have 32bit and version 4.7. My itunes do not see the Ipod. It shows in Windows as camera. I have read the thread about the diferent drivers, but none of those mentioned exist on my PC. I only have usbaapl.inf_f458dbf2 which is not mentioned by anyone. What is wrong with this piece of equipment?

Thank you for some advice how to get this solved.

Okay I have sort of the same problem.

I was upgrading my ipod touch the day the new firmware came out. But I think I was downloading the itunes upgrade at the same time it was trying to upgrade the touch, and itunes crashed leaving my ipod bricked. It was frozen on the recovery screen. I sent it away to to apple to get fixed and they sent it back unfrozen.

However, I still cannot get itunes to see the ipod. It is so screwed it. Sometimes windows recognizes it and will charge it, and then iTunes says that an iPhone has been detected but I have to disconnect and reconnect (which does nothing). And a few times I've had windows think it was a camera which I thought was so bizare. I've done everything said in this thread and still cannot sync the ipod.

Now im wondering if its a pproblem with the computer and not the touch?
