HP Printer "stopped" but "start" button and all other buttons are grayed.
I have HP 1220c Deskjet, been using for years. Paper jammed, I pulled it out. Now printer is showing "stopped" but "start jobs" button is grayed. I power cycled but to no avail. There was an abored print job in the works, but it does not show up on printer screen inside Utility. If I try printing a new document, it does show up but there is no communication with printer. Would appreciate any help in how to fix this.
Wanted to add that I am trying to print through airport, but noticed there is no longer a "rendevous" option, only bluetooth, which predates this printer.
Perhaps you have not successfully cleared the paper jam. There may still be a fragment remaining.
First test that the printer operates independently of the computer by doing a self test print using the relevant buttons combination on the printer itself.
With Printer Setup Utility closed
Locate the
com.apple.print.PrintCenter.plist found in ~/Library/Preferences and trash it.
Open Printer Setup Utility and see if Start it back.
Also run
Repair Permissions using
Disk Utility, found in Application/Utilities.
About the last thing I suggest is;
Switch off, disconnect and unplug the cable of the printer.
Locate the
com.apple.print.HP1220.plist or similar name
found in ~/Library/Preferences and trash it.
Reconnect the printer, switch on.
Thanks for your help. Just solved it with help of Apple Support by taking following steps. 1.Shut down and power off airport. 2. Remove Battery and AC Adapater. 3. Power on airport. 4. Put battery back and plug in power cord and restart computer while resetting pram. 5. Delete printer (still showing it was stopped) 6. Add printer again. So it works. Hope this helps anyone else with this problem.
