IPhoto 8 and Picasa plugin

Picasa Web Albums Uploaders does not function in IPhoto 8

This download includes both the Exporter and the Uploader. Feel free to try out both of them, although you'll probably find that one or the other is right for most of your work.

How do I install this software?

To install Picasa Web Albums Exporter into iPhoto, first make sure iPhoto isn't open. Then, double-click Picasa Web Albums Exporter plug-in.pkg. This will open the Installer. When the Installer finishes, you're ready to use the Exporter in iPhoto.

Did you manage ?

Letter from the Google Team

Thank you for your note. Our developers are currently working on an updated version of the iPhoto exporter, which will be compatible with iLife '08. In the meantime, if you're using iPhoto '08, we encourage you to use the stand-alone Mac Uploader when adding photos to Picasa Web Albums. You can do this by simply dragging your photos from iPhoto to the Mac Uploader. In addition to creating albums and uploading photos, you can also do the following using the Mac Uploader:

- Upload photos and folders of photos that aren't in iPhoto
- Add captions to your photos before you upload them
- Search your Mac for recently added photos

To download our Mac Uploader, please visit http://picasa.google.com/web/mac_tools.html

We appreciate your patience as we work to improve Picasa and Picasa Web Albums. Thanks again for writing and for your kind words about Picasa.

Regards,
The Google Team

I honestly think that Google should make a Mac-version of Picasa, which in my opinion is a much better tool that iPhoto. A lot of very useful functionality of Picasa is simply not present in iPhoto including but not limited to:

1. Convert a 'batch' of pictures into a different resolution
2. Web export that generates web content that you can chose to upload wherever you want
3. The ability to 'hold' pictures in a tray and do what you want with them
4. The ability to 'star' pictures

etc.

mapexvenus

Seems like an odd place to post this request...

But

1. Convert a 'batch' of pictures into a different resolution

You can do this using the File -> Export command

2. Web export that generates web content that you can chose to upload wherever you want

You can do this with several plug ins

3. The ability to 'hold' pictures in a tray and do what you want with them

You mean, like flag them?

4. The ability to 'star' pictures

By 'star' pictures do you mean rate them - say between one and five stars?

If I did this then does it change the pictures in the existing album? What if I do not want to do that?

Yup - In Picasa I can choose pictures from multiple albums, move them temporarily to a tray, do whatever I want to with this tray (export, order prints etc.) and then clear the tray without deleting the pictures from the original album.

4. The ability to 'star' pictures

Yes

No it doesn't. iPhoto performs all operations on a copy of the file. You can always revert to the original file.

So, agreed then, iPhoto can do all the things you mentioned.

It can batch resize photos, it can export web content, it can flag photos, and can rate pictures.

Your point was?

Picasa (Windows)
can find 522 pictures among 15000 in 29 albums (0.074 seconds).
You can right click on a folder and open it in finder
right click and open with yore favoured program picasa already know
These Photoshop MS Paint 🙂 Snagit and more
You can make a cd with auto run slideshows
The database size fore 15000 pictures 258 MB (271 078 070 byte)
The database is located in C:\Documents and Settings\your_name\Local Settings\Application

The program is free runs in Linux and Windows and you have 1 G-byte free space

Not the point your friend was making.

Picassa is an excellent application, there's no doubt about that

but

1. Google have said they're not making it for the Mac. If you want them to do that then why are you posting here? Google don't post here. This is not a point of access for Google. If you want to talk to Google go to Google. Posting here about is wasting your time.

2. If you really want to run Picassa on your Mac then simply install Windows or Linux either via Bootcamp or one of the virtualisation applications.

Finally:

I'm not sure what your point is about searching. I can find 522 pics pretty much instantly using a keyword or title search.

You can right click on images and find them in the Finder. Folders in iPhoto are virtual entities. Tough to grasp I know, but there you go.

You can export slideshows to quicktime movies and burn them to CD

That's a very big database file for 15k movies. Mine on iPhoto with 15,527 pics and some videos is 82MB

And guess what: I know where my database file is too: It's at HD/Users/Your Name/ Pictures / iPhoto Library

The application is free with a new Mac.

And, with the Picassa Plug In that Google say you should use with iPhoto you can upload directly to their Web Services.

Again, What's your point?

More importantly, how does any of this relate to iPhoto?

Allright here it is 2.6 GB in iPhoto 08 no Videos
please make a little to your 15527 pictures save it and make a new check on your databas
285 mb is it a big databas?

Nov 6, 2007 3:45 AM in response to Svendus

You are confusing the file storage with the database file.

My totla files take some 40 gigs of Hd space, all but 80Mb of that are photos. My database file is 80MB.

If you have 15,000 pics in 285 MB of Hd space then they must be very very small pic.

But again, what is your point?

How does this relate to iPhoto?
