like most people, this has been driving me crazy for a long time. in talking to Heather at Apple, we tried the following and it is now working--for now. double-click on mac HD > Library > internet plug-ins > we then dragged the following to the trash-Flash Player.plugin; flashplayer.xpt; and NP-PPC-Dir-Shockwave. We then went to adobe.com and redownloaded the lastest version of flash (9). In quicktime preferences, enable flash is not marked. Hopefully this works for someone else out there and continues for me. Best of Luck.

Ditto... Also have tried everything suggested. The problem exists on all three computers. (Two Intels & G4 PPC) As mentioned in earlier posts, Opera 9.2.4 works properly. As a laugh decided to see if Quicktime 7.3 Pro worked in WinDoze XP. Windows Explorer works properly running the QuickTime content off the Apple site.

System backstory: Running a fully current XP through VMware Fusion 1.1. Downloaded and installed QuickTime 7.3 into XP. Ran the Quicktime content off the Apple site perfectly. Upgraded the XP QT to Pro status. Works as advertised. Downloaded and played QT content from Apple site.

Believe the problem is linked to the QuickTime Plugin.webplugin. Don't believe Opera requires it to run. After dragging the .webplugin file to the desktop and after successfully running Opera didn't see a newly created file to replace it. Surmising Opera doesn't then require it. Would possibly explain why Opera works.

Glad you got it to work Carko. Saw you had posted after me. Decided to apply your fix. Did exactly what you did. Nada. Still not working in Safari. Flash content plays properly in Safari just no QuickTime. Opera 9.2.4 continues to work properly. About to change my default browser from Safari to Opera.

To sum up: Apple browser can't play Apple QT content off Apple site. Hmm...

Hi Mena,

I opened the plist file and found the txt string. However mine was already "false". See below:

</dict>
<key>application/x-shockwave-flash</key>
<dict>
<key>WebPluginExtensions</key>
<array>
<string>swf</string>
</array>
<key>WebPluginTypeDescription</key>
<string>Flash media</string>
<key>WebPluginTypeEnabled</key>
<false/>

Any other suggestions? I have OS X 10.5.1 and Quicktime Pro 7.3.

Thanks, Mark

I have tried everything on this posts and others to resolve this - one odd thing is that when I go to the com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist and change true to false...save exit and relaunch firefox...it doesn't work and then I reopen the above and it's set back to true again...someone please help before I throw this thing out the window...much thanks

I'm using quicktime pro if that makes a difference

Hi,
Mena's solution worked perfect for my Safari Browser - THANKS a million!! I've been dealing with the "Q" for months and months. Firefox, however, was unaffected.

I'm wondering--does anyone know how/if I can load an older version of Quicktime over my latest version? I tried to load 6.5, but it wouldn't let me since I have 7.3 already installed. I thought this might do the trick.

I have Tiger 10.4.

Thanks,
Jill.
