No AU-instruments showing, but validation is Ok.

I have installed Logic Studio on same system partition as some other DAWs I have used this far; Cubase 4 and Live 6.

I have some softsynths installed both as VSTs and AUs. Among others, these are NI Komplete, IK Multimedia Sonik Synth/Sampletank, Arturia, Gmedia, reFx and Korg ones. These work perfectly in both Cubase and Live.

The collection of softsynths were validated when installing Logic 8, but none show up when setting up a track or in the Library. This really seems to be a mystery to me.

I would like to add that all of my AU effects plug-ins works as expected in Logic. But no softsynth. Why should this be so?

Should I repair and install the whole system, or is this just a simple little mistake on my part?

In advance, thank you for answering.

P.s. I would like to further add that I can't start to use Soundtrack Pro because of the fact that the AU validation in Soundtrack won't complete. The AUval stops suddenly, and in spite of repeated restarts of AUval/soundtrack pro the validation won't be completed.

Hi and thanks for answering!

Well, I am new to Logic, since I have not used Logic since it was version 1.6 on a Mac Performa 400(Lc2).Things have changed since then...

Yes, I have tried to run the AUVal manually, but all seems ok when in Logic as all validation gets validation success. (In Soundtrack Pro no change,I'm afraid.)

When I discovered that none of my AU instruments were showing, I bought the VST to AU adapter from FXpansion. The reasoning being that I knew the vst versions were all working well in the other DAWs.
But no AU instruments showing still.
Something must be wrong?

Hi, and thanks for your question.

Well, I guess the versions are the most recent AND Universal Binary.
But I will take another look and report back (I am now on a different location than my music mac; I'll be back).

But, should one/a few (of 180 or so plugs)be enough to stop all third-party softsynths loading?

AND all of the third-party AU-efx plugs loads just as expected; none of the
third - party softsynths.

P.S. All plugs are original and licensed to me. This also includes iLok and Syncrosoft dongled versions.

I would like to add that I have repaired permissions (Diskwarrior)and also defragmented (iDefrag) the system Logic has been installed onto.

I have a Superduper copy of my system as backup on another partition/volume, but thats a copy of the system that worked well before Logic was installed.
If Logic malfunction is due to system (OS copy) gone bad in some way, I guess I would have to perform reinstall. Not workwise a very attractive alternative, I feel.

Hi

Is it really necessary to move AUi's or wrapped VSTi's from their respective folders to find if any of them are not meeting Logic's demands?

Or should I perform a save & repair system installation, reinstall Logic and hope that none of my settings will be lost?

There really is nothing on this subject of making third -party plug-ins work in Logic apart from the basic validation process described on page 252-254
