Whenever I try to view a video that is over three minutes or so, Youtube will stop downloading after it reaches the middle of the video. The circle will spin endlessly even after a few hours but no more of the video will download. I have tried unplugging it and resetting, but nothing seems to work. Any ideas?
I had that issue when I was wireless and have not had it since I went to an ethernet connection. Sorry you are having a problem. It's very frustrating. Did you try a system restore? Good luck.
Looks like ATV has issues with download speeds less than 1meg.
There is more info in mac rumor forum. Search for 'youtube stalls'.
Looks like the only solution is to upgrade the internet connection to higher speeds if the internet speed is less than 1meg.
Why should that make any difference at all? Are the youtube servers killing slower connections as a way to relieve demand upon the network?
Add me to the list of those who have this problem. Short videos (say, under 5 minutes) all seem to load and play fine, but once they get to the 9 or 10 minute mark, they stop downloading -- frozen, with the endless spinning -- about 2 minutes from the end. And this is consistent from video to video.
This problem has happened to me in several different network configurations.
Still feel this is likely an issue south of the router and nothing to do with ones LAN or the tv itself.
If someone with this issue who also has an iphone could check out the performance with both devices and compare them and then do the same thing with the iphone on someone else's network, the results may provide some extra clues to where the issue lies.
I just realized I have the same problem. The Apple TV stops loading at 6:50 on every video that's longer than 7 minutes. Way too strange. I'm using Airport Express, by the way.
Me too! I can't believe this thread has been open so long. Any youtube vid that's over 7 minutes hangs at about that point - between 6.45 and 7. They work fine on my Mac Pro. You would've thought they'd have fixed this by now.
Still, I suppose the good news is that this looks like a universal issue that should be fixable with a firmware update, doesn't it?
I'm very happy for you but I've always used an Airport Extreme and I'm one of the unlucky owners with this issue.
Someone asked for a try with the iPhone: well, I did it and ..... same sh**t!
I'm pretty sure the problem is on YOUTUBE servers.
Apple SHOULD DO SOMETHING.
This has happened to me too, plus you cant jump to the middle of the video!!! Lets say start from 50 minutes in!? Its impossible, this is just stupid its a hundred times worse than on my mac?! how can they have messed it up that badly!! Shocking apple! plus videos i can find on youtube on my macbook don't exist on youtube on apple tv!?
