Total crash when using a torrent client.

Since the vast majority of Torrent users use the software for illegal purposes, I don't think you are going to get much help using Torrent software here. Note the terms of use specifically forbid discussing illegal activity on the right hand side. Uninstall all of them, and get software legally from search engines such as http://www.versiontracker.com/ and http://www.macupdate.com/

On the whole, Torrent software opens firewall holes bigger than any other security threat, and cause your network traffic to increase to the point that most internet service providers will want to shut you down, since they take up valuable bandwidth others might want to use on the provider's servers.

A better distribution system is via FTP and Webdav servers. Unfortunately the software for Torrent is extremely hazardous for use. And this website is operated under the laws of California. So we have to be careful how we help, and who we help on this website. So unless you say you aren't downloading any copyrighted software or music, I'm afraid no one here can help you.

Since what you have is several network utilities all triggering what is known as a kernel panic, it suggests your network hardware needs a firmware update, or is damaged, or the software that manages the packets of networking got damaged either by the system directory, its permissions, or one of the preferences. The first step, tell us if your data is backed up?

Backing up your data should take no longer than 3 hours even if you have 500 GB of data to backup. Are you sure you want to risk your data to what could be a days recovery operation if you don't backup?

I am coming to this thread a little late but really "a brody" the guy just wants some help and not a lecture on illegal software use. I also think your rush to condemn bit torrents as only for illegal downloads is completely over blown. Firstly, it was the open source software movement that developed and utilized bit torrents. There are many open source distributions that you can only get through torrents. For example, the new qt4 and amorak project for the mac. This is hardly illegal and I don't think the forum policy would limit discussion of it or any other subject on torrents. You personal views may differ but those would fit better in a different discussion forum.

Siromaha, your problems seem to be severe and may indicate a hardware failure possibly a network card or memory. Are you sure this only happens when the torrent is running? If so try using a different client for a few days. I have found transmission to be a little buggy sometimes. Have you added any other software lately that could be the problem. I see you have a G5 is it staying cool enough?

We would not want you to lose critical data because something else is wrong with your system. Once you are backed up, we can repair those things wrong with your system. It is better to have a backup of slightly corrupt data, than no backup at all.

I think if you read through the entire thread, you'll realize that I only wanted to make sure I wasn't helping someone do an illegal activity. Terms of Use basically say not to do illegal things, and helping someone do something illegal is just about as bad as doing illegal things.

I agree with you that data corruption could be an issue here. The first step in troubleshooting any data corruption is to test dumping the preferences of the said applications that may be affected, if nothing else is affected. Unfortunately if it is a network activity problem that can be tricky and could point towards a directory issue, especially since multiple applications are affected. Let's backup first, and then see where we go.

Actually, 'a brody' is exactly right in what he has done per the Apple Terms of Use...

The use of most Peer-to-Peer software programs such as Torrent Programs or other such download programs are primarily used for illegal actions such as illegal distribution of software or music. With this being said, any user providing support for an illegal action on these forums would be subject to account termination by Apple and not worth the risk.

Validating the user is not using the aforementioned programs for illegal use is a logical action to protect oneself from aiding in illegal actions.

In the future, you may wish to consider reading over the Apple Terms of Use policy before criticizing another user for following them.

a brody, what's the best way to remove p2p apps? I'm guessing it is more involved than just trashing the app icon or folder.
