safari won't open certain websites

I am sorry if this already has a thread but I couldn't find it. My question is whether anyone can give me some advice about how to get over the problem of safari not opening certain websites. I have followed Apple's suggestion's to add "index/html" following the address but it does not work. They also suggest to contact each websites adminstrator which I don't have the time as there are a number of websites in which I have encountered this problem. Also, it seems to be a deficiency of the Safari rather than the other websites. How do I get over this obestacle? TX!

Hi,

I use a somewhat obscure on-line e-mail server at www.walla.com. It's never given me more then a couple minutes trouble here and there when logging in on any PC but with my mac, even though it will let me log in, it never manages to load up my inbox no matter how long I wait.

Anyone have any idea why this might be and what I might be able to do.

(I'm not using wireless right now and I just got this mac so I'm assuming 3.x beta is my defult Safari)

Thank you.

I got the same trouble as mixmac! Except I don't have another computer connected, and I'm not on a wireless nerwork.

When I try to open http://www.watat.com in either Safari or Firefox, all I get is a message saying that the server stopped responding or the connection has timed out, respectively. I know the website is running because I asked an acquaintence ( on a Mac laptop ) to try the page, and BOOM, it opened with no trouble. A friend suggested to check my OS X firewall configuration and reconfigure. ( Huh? ) Seeing the problem exists using either browser, this leads me to believe that the trouble is with my machine. Can anybody give me a hand, before I have to call Apple support?

Hello all,

Just to add to this (rather than start my own thread) I'd also appreciate any assistance you might be able to give. I am currently unable to open multiple websites with safari and the list seems to be growing daily. Sites include, amongst others, www.hotmail.com and www.pinggolf.com

I have tried everything I can think of to try and resolve the issue including all the suggestions made on the Apple support site. Sadly I've had no luck. I wondered whether the issue was related to the fact I use a wireless network but the I still had the same problem when connected using the ethernet.

Advice welcome as it's a very frustrating problem!

Many thanks.

Btw, I am using Safari 3.0.3

I didn't want to start a new thread, but I just experienced something very strange.

First of all, I installed Leopard 36 hours ago, and except for a small email issue, it's been great. Until this...

I was on my own website, when it suddenly said it couldn't open my page because it couldn't find the server. I checked with my host, and everything was fine. I tried going there with an old version of IE, and I got right on. Tried again with Safari, and no dice. I studied the addresses to see if anything was different, and noticed that in IE, there was no "www." in the address. So, I deleted the www from the address in Safari, and it found the website. However, all the images were X's because their address starts with a www.

This lasted about 10 minutes, and then everything was fine. During that time, other websites seemed to work fine.

My head is starting to hurt again.
