DVD physically stuck in optical drive

My grandson apparently tried to insert his game DVD by himself. I can see/feel the edge of the disc in the optical drive. The disc isn't being recognized by Disk Utility, and none of the usual tricks (eject while holding upside down, restart while holding buttons down, etc.) are working.

The optical drive appears to be working correctly -- it tries to eject the DVD with the usual methods. Is there a way to physically eject the DVD such as the old methods of using a paper clip to release the mechanism? Evidently it isn't physically seated properly.

Before posting this question, I had searched the discussion forum looking for an answer. Thanks for providing the "sticky tape" clue which led to a solution. Using that search topic led me to another thread about combining a business card and sticky tape -- DVD came right out and the optical drive is as good as gold.

Many thanks for taking the time to help!!! (And I also agree about that "enterprising person.")

How about using a thin plastic knife on the end of which a piece of double-sided tape has been placed? Would that work as an MBP tool?
Better yet, how about a stiff plastic playing card with double-sided tape stuck on the end?
But best would be for Apple to sell a good old-fashioned American computer with a real DVD drive?
When was the last Mac made in the USA?
