Will 3rd Party Apps void my warranty?

I'm pretty sure that this has been asked many times, but I just want to know for sure. Will third party applications void my warranty? After seeing the many features you can have with third party applications, it looks great. But I also don't want to be rejected when I need to take my iPhone to be serviced. I just bought my iPhone, and it didn't come with the new firmware. So should I just update it, or not? This will really relieve my anxiety.

🙂 No, you're NOT an idiot, but you're also not going to buy this person a new phone if they install applications and find that, due to some insane set of circumstances involving goat cheese, a 16 ton anvil and Alan Thicke that they're unable to reset their iPhone to factory settings before taking it in and, as a result, are told their iPhone isn't covered.

Warranty service seemed to be very important to the original poster and, let's assume, as you said, that no one really knows if it voids your warranty or not. We do know that NOT installing applications will most assuredly not void your warranty. Along those same lines, NOT smashing it with a hammer will not void your warranty, NOT feeding it to the Bugblatter Beast of Traal will not void your warranty and NOT doing anything that voids your warranty will not void your warranty. 😀

In order to install 3rd party applications requires using a hack or by a method that is not approved or provided by Apple (which is a hack any way you cut it) and doing so is against the license agreement so based on this alone, it can certainly void your warranty or Apple would be within their rights in doing so if this can be determined or is known by Apple.

I'd like to thank you all for your comments. In the end, I decided not to risk it and upgraded my firmware. Maybe someday, Apple will make it official that us iPhone owners will be able to create and install other native applications.

For some reason, I keep getting error messages when I try to click on the "Helpful" button. But you were all very helpful in making my decision. Again, thank you for all your comments.
