Tv show episodes display in alphabetical order instead of by episode number

Hello, I'm at the end of my rope on this issue. Yes, it's minimal, but when I own something old, that does a better job of sorting my video than something new, I get frustrated. Plus apple care specialists on the phone have given unacceptable answers (rename all episodes starting with 1...2....3...etc.)

The problem is the way tv shows are sorted in itunes (by episode number), does not translate when you sync onto a new 160 gb ipod classic. The classic will alphabetize the name of the program (ie: lost, heroes, seinfeld) correctly, and then break it down into seasons correctly, but when you go into those seasons, all of the individual episodes are displayed in alphabetical order. Even though apple care techs disagree with me on this, but i don't watch episodes that start with a, then episodes that start with b. I want them in linear order, as they were released. And my ipod video did this.

Now, I have looked on the web, but I'm still not finding any success with any tips I found.

I understand that the ipod used to sort the video by the episode number (perfect!), but now the new itunes and ipod sort them by episode id. I have yet to get episode id to organize them. I've tried numerical values as 01, 02, etc, and 001, 002, 003, and mst001, mst002, etc, but it still sorts alphabetically.

I have also tried the new sort tab after getting info. no combination on this seems to work.

I'm ok if this is a bug. if it is, it's one of many I have found with this model (ie: i should have waited). If it's a bug, i'll wait and shut up. but if this is the way apple thinks people want to watch their episodes, in alphabetical order, and have their reps pretend this is acceptable, then i have a problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions, any real tips, share this same problem? please post.

As far as I'm concerned, this is in the same category as albums sorted by name and not year. Why can't we customize the filetree that we see? Song titles show up in track order in albums, so it's obviously possible to sort items by an undisplayed factor. Personally, I'd like to see:

Songs/Artist/Year - Album/## - Title

I know other many other people don't do this, but having a full 160gig iPod with only full albums that are meticulously organized is tough enough to navigate with the current sluggish interface. Why not make us able to decide in what manner or music is displayed?

Thanks for your help, but no, that does not work. This is why I think it's a bug, or a feature left out. The "episode id" i wrote about, is when you get info, etc... you are suggesting. thanks.

anyone else?

Try assigning a "Track Number" value in the Info tab for each episode, in the same fashion as you would a track number for a music file.

(Note: just to clarify, this is NOT the same tab that you would populate information into the "Episode Number" and "Season" fields - this is the tab where you populate Artist, Album Artist, Year, etc.)

The "Of #" field doesn't necessarily need to be populated, but if you happen to have the total number of episodes for that particular season, it couldn't hurt.

See if this works and post back.
