Drivers for Dell 1320c Color Laser

The drivers would be on Dell's site if they were available.
This is a Host-Based Printer - that means all page preparation is done on the computer and downloaded as a bitmap to the printer. In other words, a proprietary, Windows-only print driver. If you run Windows on an Intel Mac, you can use it that way.

To talk to a networked Dell 1320c Color Laser Printer using OS X 10.4 follow these steps.

Download the driver for the DocuPrint C525 from here: http://www.fujixerox.com.au/support/drivers/307
Double click the icon to install after it downloads. When the install is finished you can delete the installer.

From the Apple menu open *System Preferences* and select *Print & Fax*.
Click the + to add a printer.
Select *IP Printer*.

Select for the Protocol: *Line Printer Daemon - LPD*
Type the IP address: 192.168.1.177 or whatever it happens to be assigned you network. +You may need a Windows machine to configure an IP address OR you can look at your routers DHCP table for where it was assigned. After you know this you can actually log into the printer from your web browser to change any settings.+
Name the printer "*color laser*" or whatever you'd like it to be.
For *Print Using* select: FX
Next select *FX DocumPrint C525 A-AP v1.2* in the box below.
On the next screen +you must+ select *250 Sheet Feeder* is as an option. *Otherwise it will only manual feed.*

Click Ok.

Print something.

*Paper Source is not automatically selected on this printer.* It won't print unless you set it. This is found in the printer options called Printer Features. The paper should menu should be set to Auto or 250 Sheet Feeder.

Do a Save As... for the Printer Profile. So you don't have to check this every time the set that Profile as the Default.

*The steps for OS X 10.5* are nearly the same. The difference is that you don't have to download the driver from the website.

Thinking about buying a macbook for use around the house, but concerned about the lack of OS X drivers from dell. Will this solution give me print job settings such as multiple pages per sheet (e.g. 2-up) and switching to black and white (to save color toner)?

2-up printing (or any-up) works like any other printer. Using the "Printer Features" tab allows you to turn off Color. You can also save printer profiles so you don't have to remember to set every feature every time.

I downloaded the driver, but it does not work w/ 10.5 ... anyone have any ideas?

not sure if this helps, but if you skip all that ip network stuff and simply install a new printer and pick the proper fx driver, you are good to go, at least i was

Thanks John! Any idea how to disable the bloody manual feeder port? Although the print driver works perfectly, I can NOT make it use the 250 sheet feeder no matter what! (MacBook Pro, 10.4.11, IP printing on 192.168.x.x subnet).

I have same printer, only prints if I manually feed it. Did you figure how to disable manual feeder?

i got the same problem: an iMac and a Dell 1320c printer which doesn´t work! i connected it over usb.
i tyed all the sollutions with other drivers.. but i dont´t have a network-card in the printer. so i´m used to connect it wiht usb.

is there a new solution out there. would be nice 🙂 i have to print for my work

Using the instructions from this thread, I was able to use my Dell color laser printer. I am running 10.5 and the driver is already installed on my Mac Mini. I have a Belkin router and the Dell ethernet interface card installed. Printing over the LAN was flawless. Thanx for the info.

I can't even get past the driver install. I downloaded it from the site but once unstuffed I end up with a file (dpc525a mac10.4v1.2) which isn't an installer. What am I doing wrong?

then just put a .dmg on the end of it, like...

dpc525a mac10.4v1.2

dpc525a mac10.4v1.2.dmg

Well, I got it working after managing to install the driver but despite selecting the 250 page tray it still won't print unless manually fed. I noticed others are having the same problem - has anyone found a solution to this?
