Could not contact the iTunes Store to authorize?

I am getting a message saying " Some of the items in the iTunes library... were not copied to the Apple TV... because the Apple TV could not contact the iTunes store to authorize."

This problem seems to affect 100 purchased songs - so I am able to sync the majority of my purchased music - but for some reason, not ALL of it.

Apple TV software is up to date as is iTunes software... I have tried recreating my iTunes library, resetting and factory restoring Apple TV, etc. Yes I am running everybody's favorite OS, Windows Vista...

Anybody have any suggestions???

With due respect it would be very generous of  to refund you for something that appears to be a user set up problem. I don't really foresee this is an issue with either the hardware or the supplied software, whilst this is not an isolated issue it affects only a handful of people and is likely down to user settings or your ISP.

If you are intent on returning the tv then I wish you good luck.

I have multiple itunes accounts and experienced this problem on upgrading to Take2.

I deleted all the plist files (just in case) and re-linked my AppleTV to my itunes.

I then deauthorised all my accounts and reauthorised each account. I noticed that as I reauthorised each account that AppleTV quickly synched and appeared to authorise AppleTV at the same time.

I then synchronised AppleTV and everything worked fine.

I can't let this one go by.

Don't be an apologist for Apple. The reason why some things break is because of imperfect design. ("Imperfect" is an euphemism I'll use in place for "bad design", but software is complex, so I'll be "kind".)

If users are complaining, there's a problem, and if it's on the user's end, that endpoint still involves Apple software that isn't achieving the simple goals of the user. You know, simple goals such as "I want to listen to my music or watch my movies, so please don't make this difficult at any time for me!"

I write this after fighting Apple software over several hours because the Apple TV wouldn't authorize a transfer of an unviewed SD rental movie from my MacBook's iTunes. Something is not designed right and it is NOT MY FAULT that Apple didn't design it right.

(See the last post to this thread, by someone else, explaining the steps he had to take to get his stuff working. Lame. And NOT HIS FAULT.)

First, I have to say, this thread helped me resolve my problem as well. I had just added a second Apple TV, and when sync'g for the first time, I received this error. While I understand that DRM is not Apple's fault, it's implementation is.

I have to back this one comment up - this is not a user problem. I buy Apple products so I do not have to deal with such inconveniences. That being said, Apple is making greater progress in moving away from the extremely consumer unfriendly DRM requirements.

DRM is killing the entertainment industry, and they just don't see it. I will gladly pay for music/movies/etc. However, if it is considerably easier to steal it, and not deal with the inconveniences that DRM cause, people are going to continue to steal it. People don't steal books because it is easier/cheaper to buy the books in most cases. Entertainment has to follow that philosophy. It has to be cheaper and easier than stealing - THEN, the entertainment industry can see decent sales return.
