MacBook Pro just shuts off after 1.3 Battery Update.

My MacBook Pro just shuts off after 1.3 Battery Update.
It is random and very annoying. Has anyone else have this problem?

MacBook Pro 2ghz core duo, Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Dont mess up with the configuration utilities...the Battery Update has nothing to do with the system folder..

the Battery Update mainly adjusts the parameters defined by the embedded microprocessor in the battery...

So,if you find any anomalies after the update...it's probably due to the battery....

Also, remember that as long as your battery's full charge capacity is below 80% of its nominal value and the total charge cycles is below 300.....you are eligible for a battery replacement regardless of your warranty..

Hi I had the shut down problem after running the 1.3 update. I bought a new battery because I am on the road and really need my laptop. I have followed the instructions to properly calibrate the battery. Once it was all charged up and I removed the power cable it ran down to where it put itself to sleep. So in my case it appears it may have been the battery. Why the update made what I thought was a fully functinal battery non-functional I may never know but at least my problem appears solved.

The woman at AppleCare took my name and address, then asked for my credit card "to pay for the replacement battery." This is the FOURTH battery recall I've been through with Apple, and they have even replaced my magsafe adapter after it frayed and started to smolder and melt, and I have never had to pay for any of the replacements. I don't know why they've changed their policy, but I'm changing mine too and won't be buying Apple again.

I have been seeing this issue to, after the 1.3 update. At first my batter showed a very low capacity, below 50% of new, but after a while it showed 97%. When I run on the batter, after about half the life time, the system just shuts down, and the battery indicators show a discharged battery, even though the system showed near 50%. After this, the batter capacity toggles back to very low in the power tab of system profile, showing about 2500mAH.

I went to the genius bar yesterday and they reset the smc, and said that should fix it, but today I tried running on the battery and got the same thing. So far the battery capacity has not toggled back to full as it has in the past. It it will stay at 47%, genius should give me a new battery, as I am on applecare.

I hate making multiple trips to them because they don't believe what I tell them. But I try to make the best of it by playing with all the toys I can't afford now! 😉

I have exactly the same problem...
after updating my battery with the last battery updating 1.3 my macbook (core2duo 2.33Mhz 2GB RAM) pro shuts off immediately, without no warning when the battery reaches 48% (when running on batter and not on external power supply). My macbook pro is only 11 month old and the battery should be in excellent condition at least according to the system profiler and coconut battery which show the following information:

current battery capacity: 5481
original battery capacity: 5500
battery load cycles: 16

I have tried resetting the PRAM and SMC without any improvement.
I would also like to point out that i have been calibrating the battery every month.
I would like to ask if i am eligible for a battery update and how is this performed.
To be more specific:
I live in Greece but i a city 100 km from Athens. Do i have to bring the battery to the service center to be checked and replaced, or do i have to bring the whole computer to them? I am afraid about them keeping the computer. I read at a greek forum that someone with the same problem had his computer taken for 7 days before replacing his battery.

Thank you for your help.

@Dimitrios:

I had your same problem (read my above post), and my Macbook Pro is only 7 months old. I'm not altogether sure what the battery update 1.3 did, but it killed my battery.

My Macbook was just shutting down instantly at around 84% battery power remaining.

Anyway, I did pram resets & all that, but to no avail. I called Apple on wednesday, talked to 2 different agents (the battery update #), and explained my newly acquired problem. Since my computer was still in it's year long warranty, I had no problem getting a new replacement battery sent, which I received last night, installed it & am happy to report that my battery/computer problems are solved...Yaay! (also, I do have to send back my bad battery back to them, but that would be my pleasure after the grief it has caused me recently)

The battery update 1.3 killed my old battery somehow, so you will have to call Apple & explain that installing the battery update 1.3 has damaged your computer's battery. You will get a replacement battery sent to you at no cost (you send them back your bad battery). You won't lose any access to your computer, you won't have to drive anywhere & it will absolutley solve your problem.

I'm so glad this was an easy fix for me, and in the future i'm steering clear of battery updates from Apple. If fit ain't broke, don't fix it.....

Dear VesperLynd,

thank you for your reply. After doing a reset of the SMC multiple times the coconutbattery and the system profiler show:

current battery capacity: 3022
original battery capacity: 5500
battery load cycles: 16

So it seems that the last update killed my battery... I am waiting for monday to come and hope for the best.....
