Command Line DVD Burn Command?

Dear Wise & Powerful Masters of Technolgy,

What would be the best way to get a DVD to burn from command line? I can make a tar & put it on the DVD. But I have not yet figgured out how to make the DVD driver burn automatically.

The objective is to automate backup to DVD. I would like to have a burned DVD will all my stuff from yesterday on an ejected DVD when I walk into the office in the mornings.

Your humble geek,

Dear Cole,

Thank you for the hint. So far, I have this result:

$ hdiutil burn Desktop/backup
hdiutil: burn: "Desktop/backup" not recognized - No such file or directory
hdiutil: burn failed - No such file or directory

$ hdiutil burn Desktop/backup.fpbf/
hdiutil: burn: "Desktop/backup.fpbf/" not recognized - not recognized
hdiutil: burn failed - not recognized

$ hdiutil burn Desktop/backup/ibook.tar.Z
hdiutil: burn: "Desktop/backup/ibook.tar.Z" not recognized - No such file or directory
hdiutil: burn failed - No such file or directory

$ hdiutil burn Desktop/backup.fpbf/ibook.tar.Z
hdiutil: burn: "Desktop/backup.fpbf/ibook.tar.Z" not recognized - not recognized
hdiutil: burn failed - not recognized

What would you recommend as the next step?

Your humble geek,

Kurt
