Keyboard and Touchpad are switching Off

Hello,

I have little problem with my MacBookPro
it's after 5 minutes of work after login is switching of the touch pad and all buttons on the keyboard. And i can't work.
In the same time if i pulling on the usb mouse, it's recognizing and working. But touchpad and keyboard are off.

Somebody knows what it can be ?
It's never happened before, can it be virus or something

Cheers
Eugene

I got the same problem too. The keypad and touchpad stoped working after using a external keyboard and mighty mouse a while. Solution send the thing to apple they will change the hole upper front of your pro and everything will be fine ... Installing a new system or any repair tool won't work ... I tried everything. You loose only your data 😟 - Well no it's doning fine.

Are you turning the wireless keyboard and mouse off before going back to the keyboard and touchpad on your pro?

I have forgotten to turn them off before and gone downstairs in my house to realize that they both can't work at the same time. I went back upstairs and turned the externals off and was back in business.

Seems like it's programmed error.

It's working in the beginning. Then, in few minutes after loading the OSX it's just switching off all the upper face of the pro.. i don't know what to do then, need to switch off and on again, later same problem.. and if i need to work i always connect mouse and wireless keyboard 😟

Also i've FOUND that when it's crushed sometime it switching on lighting buttons Caps Lock and Num Lock - they are shining on, but the keyboard and touchpad are inactive

Can it be virus or something ? do i need to update firmware EMI update or antyhing else ... I checked for new software and it's nothing new there for me..

I believe I have the same problem.

All is well as long as the machine does not enter sleep, but if it gets to enter sleep sometimes neither keyboard nor touchpad is responding to presses. The background lighting still works but the keys do not with one exception: The power button.

My external USB mouse works still when this happens. I have tried without the external mouse attached, but it still happens and I need to attach the mouse to do a somewhat clean reboot.

I really want a solution to this problem. I believe the other problems with keypresses (first keypress missing) is pretty much solved for me at this time, but not being able to use the keyboard at all is a BIG issue.

/Martin.

Different problems can cause this same behavior on Leopard:

1. System Preferences Keyboard/Mouse or Bluetooth panels have settings to ignore internal keyboard or trackpad input while an external is connected, so double-check that these are configured to keep internal keyboard and trackpad active. Mine were set properly, so this wasn't my problem.

2. The preferences files holding those setting might have gotten corrupted; rebuilding them didn't solve my problem.

3. A permissions problem might be blocking access to the lower-level functions the prefs control. This was my problem. However, simply repairing permissions didn't work, because SUID changes were blocking repair of about 20 files. To fix all but one SUID warning (harmless), I downloaded and manually re-install the Mac OS X 10.5.1 Updater from apple.com. All my mice and keyboards immediately began working simultaneously upon the next restart. Whew.

4. It could be a hardware issue. To rule this out, Shutdown the MBP, wait a few seconds, disconnect everything but power, turn off or pull the batteries from all Bluetooth devices, then power up the MBP. If the internal keyboard and trackpad now seem to work, then it's probably an unknown software issue, not a hardware issue. Otherwise, you may need to get a topcase replacement.

I'm having the same problem with keyboard keystrokes becoming inactive after a time (intermittently) on BOTH my MacBookPro and my G5 - and the problem has gotten much, much worse since upgrading the G5 to Leopard (my last holdout) three days ago. We're talking six to ten times per day. I'm unable to piece together consistent steps that lead up to the problem - but it at least seems to occur only when more than one app is open at a time.

As I did a brand new install (my policy) of Leopard, including permissions rebuilds, disk utility and DiskWarrior hard drive repairs, that would seem to rule out a preferences or permissions issue.

My temporary solution is to Force Quit the Finder, and the keystrokes are restored. This doesn't seem to do any harm other than closing all open Finder windows - a tricky business when I'm in the midst of copying/duplicating sensitive files to exact matching locations on other Macs for backup, or to the MacBookPro for going on client meetings, etc.

As a Finder restart repairs it - it makes me wonder if this is, in fact, a Mac OS X bug. I will say that I keep PopChar, WeatherPop, and MS-Word running full-time - and one of those may be the culprit, I don't know.

I always erase-and-install, too. The Software Update process introduces permissions problems, particularly on SetUID files that Disk Utility and DiskWarrior (v4.0) can't repair. Every Leopard clean install + Software Update I have done on Intel Macs has resulted in several (8-20) irreparable SUID warnings in Disk Utility, and takes a metric forever to finish. Apple says update 10.5.2 will fix these problems, but for now, rerunning 10.5.1 updater eliminates all but one of the SUID warnings.

How many SUID warnings did Disk Utility report for you, and how long did it take to repair permissions? If there was more than one SetUID warning, did you re-install the 10.5.1 Updater? Did DiskWarrior 4.1 fix all the SUID warnings? It only came out 5 days ago, so I haven't had a chance to try it yet. DiskWarrior 4.0 can't fix Leopard permissions, and isn't recommended for use with Leopard. ( http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/support.html )

Is PopChar version 3.3.2? Versions before 3.3.1 had Leopard-related problems. ( http://www.macility.com/products/popcharx/history.html )

WeatherPop ( http://weatherpop.com/?p=7 ) is reporting many Leopard-related problems. Commenters suggest switching to METEO freeware ( http://heat-meteo.sourceforge.net/ ).

Is MS-Word from Office for Mac 2008 (now available), or 2004? If 2004, I've had better luck on Leopard running NeoOffice freeware ( http://www.neooffice.org ) and Office 2007 in XP under Parallels ( http://parallels.com ).
