FYI Roland / Edirol PCR keyboard controllers are not plug and play

I thought I would post this for folks like me that were lead to believe that the Edirol controllers were plug and play as (I guess) the M-Audio ones are. They are not as of this post and I am having a little trouble with installing the drivers.

If folks want to chime in their opinions on these controllers that would probably be useful to future searchers thinking about getting one of these keyboards.

iMac 2.33 GHz- Powerbook - eMac, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Who told you that? I took a look at the manual, and it clearly says you have to install software.

I was told by the salesperson that sold it to me it was plug and play. no matter evidently the CD with the drivers was from 2003 so that's why it didn't work on an Intel Mac.

In case anybody else has the same problem this is the page with the drivers for the PCR controllers.

I have an Edirol PCR-80 keyboard at home and by default it use a special midi mode that need a driver on the computer side to be recognized. You can change the default behavior on the keyboard by editing the midi mode to use plug and play mode. Look in the documentation, you should find something in the configuration section.
