Lacie hard drive won't spin down when MacBook is asleep

I have an HP printer and a 250GB Lacie hard drive connected to my AEBS - both work great.

However, the Lacie hard drive NEVER quits running. Even if my MacBook is OFF. It's formatted to Windows Sharing (SMB/CIFS) and like I said - works great e/x it won't shut down.

I'm really afraid it will burn up in short order if I don't figure this out!

same problem but this LaCie USB2 drive is connected to a Mac mini. **** thing never goes to sleep!

The drive should actually be able to spin 24/7 for years with no problems. Seriously.

My LaCie 500 GB USB, Porsche Design, don't spin down never.. even if connected via USB to my MacBook !
This isn't an ecologically-correct behaviour... 😟

The Lacie support answered me saying that this model does not spindown. I don't understand why
this choice.
Mine spins too even with just the power in, no Mac.

Another one here! My 500 GB Porsche drive will not spindown! I have an older 80 GB Lacie firewire drive (also Porsche design) that DOES spindown correctly.

This is very annoying!

There should be some kind of config possibilities for these drives? Doesn't LaCie have that?
I have a brand new 1TB LaCie disk with FW800,FW400 and USB2. It doesn't spin down.....
