cannot restore ipod

I tried plugging in my ipod touch and itunes can't read it. it says to try restoring it, but when I try it gives me the message "The ipod "ipod" could not be restored. An unknown error occured. (-18)"
Also, in the system info on the ipod it now says that it only has 300 mbs capacity. Has anybody had a similar problem? any ideas on what to do? any help would be greatly appreciated!

imac, Mac OS X (10.4.10)

To restore the iPod manually, Hold both Sleep and Home, the iPod will turn off but dont let go, when the Apple logo comes up on the screen release sleep. You should then see a message to plug in your iPod to a computer.

Hope this helps, 😀.

PS.

If that doesn't work, instead of releasing Sleep when you see the Apple logo, release home... I can't quite remember which one.

did you try jail breaking it? if so you're probably bricked, being bricked has no proven solution, but heres your best bet
1)Keep trying to restore
2)Hold the power and the _home button_, then when the screen goes black *let go* of the _power button_ and keep holding the _home button_, then try to restore
3) _reset it_ repeatedly by hold the power and _hold button_
Once again, this _is not proven_ to work and only works if your Ipod is bricked

I did this step twice.. It said everything worked.. it restarted and then it came up on itunes 7.5 it said an ipod has been detected but it couldnt be identified properly..

Should I keep retying to force-restore.. or contact apple and send it back.. I was jailbroken. But i restored once on my windows and it worked fine. On my imac is craps out

i woke up this morning, put on the head phones and turn on the touch.

it tells there is no music. it tells me there is no videos.

it has my pics.

turn on the pc and try to sync.

itunes tells me it can read the touch i need to restore. i tell it to go ahead. it downloads the firmware, but tells me it cant restore. error-18.

now im worried.

come here and find this, the above steps dont work.i tried like 5 times.

i do a search for -18 on the site and found this:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305797

my touch is no syncing.

sure, im late to work but i got the touch back.

anyone know why this can happened?
