Ipod Classic 1.0.1 firmware found on apples site. how can we now downgrade

I did that. Didn't work. My mac just doesn't allow me any other options.

Has this got something to do with my OS? I'm using a new iMac that's running on OS 10.4.10 and my iTunes is version 7.4.

Do you have both the 1.0.1 firmware file and the 1.0.1 signature file in the same folder?

Yes both files are in the same folder. I called Apple support and the guy told me I can't go back to 1.0.1…hmmm

Hi hyl, try the fllowing:

delete update 1.0.2, disconnect from the internet, connect the ipod, open itunes and restore the ipod software.

Tried your suggestion, still doesn't work.

My iMac just doesn't give me the "Don't Check" option when I put 1.0.1 in the folder. I quit iTunes, restart my mac but still it doesn't work. When I put back the 1.0.2, guess what? The option appeared. Is this some kind of default in my iMac?

Is there no other way for me to reformat my iPod to delete the 1.0.2 besides using iTunes? Disk utilities so far only allows me to erase the data but the 1.0.2 is still in there.

I too have been experiencing problems with the new firmware update (1.0.2); my battery power is now draining for no reason (after I have pressed & held play/pause, and put it on Hold). I've already downloaded 1.0.1, but I cannot find the 1.0.2 update in the folder that was suggested. I've searched using "*.ipsw" and in the ipod/library/Apple Software Updates folder, but nothing is showing up.

Can you provide me with the destination path, or another way to downgrade to 1.0.1?

i'm having the same problem as everyone else. where are those files located on vista? i searched an could not find anything. with windows xp the "documents and settings" folder was so easy to find; on vista I find everything is hard to find.

this sounds easy enough to do but i can't fiind the folder

any help will be appreciated

Vista uses a similar concept, except that it wouldn't be C:\Documents and Settings; rather:
C:\Users

Also, make sure to edit your Folder Viewing Options to SHOW HIDDEN FILES & FOLDERS as the Application Data Folder is hidden (shaded on the screen if hidden files are enabled, not visible if hidden files aren't enabled [default])

Hi hyl, i'm not sure if i can help, i don't have a mac, but you don't need to put the 1.0.2 back in that folder or disable the option about automaticaly check for updates, i understant that you said that this option is not available.
Just delete the 1.0.2 and make sure you have the 1.0.1 in that folder, restart everything and don't allow acess to the internet, use iTunes to restore ipod's software and that's it, it worked for me on Vista.

Hi kudos88, i done that using Vista and the search box, if you are using XP make sure you enable search for hidden and system files, type *.ipsw and search for it, must find the two files together with the other two for the update 1.0.1, find 1.0.2, delete it, you don't need to download the 1.0.1 again as you said, it should be there since the first time you updated you ipod to 1.0.1
my destination path on Vista is: C:\Users\<my name>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates, there is no other way to downgrade that i'm aware of.

Hi jr369, on Vista go to Search, click advanced search, select Include Non-Indexed, Hidden and System Files.
or enable show hidden files in control panel/folder options and go to: C:\Users\<your name>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates

Hi everyone. Here's the latest update on my ordeal.

I was instructed by Apple support to return the set and exchange for yet another one. I went down to the shop…the 6th time, asked the service centre to test my set again. Yup it was corrupted again but the guy somehow managed to restore it. I made him load in 200 songs plus some videos, photos, eject the iPod then load again, eject, load again…no problem at all!

I then asked him to revert my iPod to the older patch. He said it's possible, I just need to hold on to the option key when I click the restore button to be able to access that option. It works, he said but it just refused to work on my classic…sigh.

Anyway, I asked him what I should do next. He said I can try by converting my songs into mp3 format. I said "What???" What is the point of me getting an iPod if I want mp3 quality songs in them?

Can someone tell me what is the problem with my iPod??? Please don't suggest that my mac is corrupted and actually causing the problem. I'm using a 3 weeks old intel iMac. As for my music library, all the songs I load in are from cd albums I own.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!! >_<

ps: I'm attempting to set up another music library on my PC to test out the iPod. In the meantime, anyone with any other suggestions, please share with me.

Good news everyone, my classic is finally functional.

I restored it on my PC using the older patch. Thanks for all the instructions. After restoring, I sync it with my entire music library on the PC and it worked smoothly. Since it was reset to 1.0.1, I then tried it on my iMac and this time round, I was allowed to stick to 1.0.1. I've loaded my entire music library on my mac into my iPod and it didn't freeze. Seems to be working fine now. What a relief.

thanks guys i got it but i don't know if im still going to be happy overall with the classic

to all with the final step of restore just unhook the ipod and restart itunes and make sure that auto software update is off and then try it it will work i followed those instructions exactly!

i know this is off topic but usually people who are this much into their equipment like me may be able to provide some advice

i got my 80GB classic 10-6-07 and unfortunately have vista and b/c of that itunes 7.4 or maybe the 1.0.2 firmware was locking my itunes up while updating the ipod. itunes as benn pretty good (after an unneeded system restore) Now, i still have 2 weeks to return it to best buy; but i bought a 35.00 iskin 5G 30GB claro case that may go to waste if i were to exchange for the touch instead but also i don't find myself using the classic for music much, at first i did want the touch hands down. now i notice that i'm mostly using it just for video. but when buying for value i went with the classic.

i'm so confused now and any info/advice will be greatly apprciated

to turn of you ipod classic just reset it(press menu and the center button at the same time). After you see the apple logo just press the rewind/back button together with the center button. This will bring you to the ipod's hidden menu...(muhahaha). Press menu. Scroll down to power. Scroll down to sleep and go through all its submenus and finally it will say...deeeeep sleep(aka rest in peace forever). Select this button and the ipod WILL be in a deep slumber. To wake, press any key. You will see the apple logo. This is normal. Wait and the logo will disappear and ta-da!!!your ipod is awake.
