Ipod Classic 1.0.1 firmware found on apples site. how can we now downgrade

I know this sounds tedious but you will get the hang of it

I am still on 1.0. How do I get to 1.0.1 or should I go to 1.0.1 and what were the fixes in 1.0.1?

I would just like to say that you guys are the BEST! I, too, have had nothing but problems with version 1.0.2. I had to take one ipod back to Target and exchange it (so my daughter would get her birthday present on time), and my personal ipod has been draining the battery daily, in addition to being unable to alphabetize my cover art correctly. I am by no means a computer whiz, but I was able to follow the combination of instructions here, and delete the 1.0.2 files, and successfully restore. I cannot tell you how appreciative I am for your help and knowledge. I am very disappointed with Apple and the Apple Care line. Hopefully, I won't have any more problems, but if I do, I know to look here first for practical help. Thanks again (I hope my battery will stay charged now.....)

I still can't restore my iPod, after doing all the steps in the detailed explanation successfully. When I try to do the restore step, everything looks ok in a few minutes, but then I gets a message that says: iTunes have discovered a iPod unit in restoremodus. You must restore this iPod before you can use it together with iTunes."
When i try to restore it again, the same thing happends....
If i "ejects" the iPod, the display shows a message that says: "use iTunes to restore", and there is impossible to do anything else....
I have tried to upgade it back to 1.0.2 again, and to 1.0.1 one more time, but the same **** happends..... What can I do to fix this???? Anybody please....

Btw: I'm using iTunes 7.5, do I have to install 7.4 instead??

I have now finally managed to restore my iPod back to 1.0.1. But nothing has changed.. Everything looks ok in the beginning, but aftre transfering 15-20 songs everything stops.. In iTunes it looks like the operation is finished successfully, but the display on the iPod says that it is synchronizing... And it vill never end, I have left it like that for hours, but nothing happends...

As many people here i have the same strange problem. I charge my IPod use it one or two time for an hour and the third time the batterie is drained. I read all your comments about this issue. According most of the people it may be a software problem. According me there are more than one possible cause.
1. A software problem
2. An hardware problem
3. A manipulation problem.

First i investigate on the battery itself. My first step was to evaluate the actual battery longivity. So i charge the IPOD totaly and then let it play until the battery drained by itself. My théorie was if it stay signifiantly longer than 2 or 3 hours is that it isn't not only or not at all a battery problem. The first time i let it play, it play around 8 hours. More than 2 or 3 hour but not enough to make a conclusion. I charge it again and let it play until it died again. This time it takes 41 hours. A lot more than the previous test and also a lot more than the specification of the product.

I have my own theory. I add songs and movies frequently to import all my cd's on the CD. During this importation process the battery is charge to full. Inconciently, the battery haven't never been really drained and no charge cycle have been made. The battery indicator is not very accurate on that type of équipment. I think it may gives false emptyness alarm since the battery haven't been charge totaly from emty sufficiant times. So i have an empty alarm but the battery wasn't really. You follow...?

My next enquired will be done after i will have made two other full charge cycle. Il will play one or two hour of musice two subsequent days and see if the same problem occurs. If it doesn't occurs it will means that it was just a manipulation problem, if it occurs, it will means that it's a software or hardware issue. Something like an unworking sleep mode or a battery charge checkup malfunction.

I will give news next.
