Printer Utility or Epson 1280 software problem

Printer Utility or Epson 1280 software problem

My operating system is a G5 with 4 gigs of ram and OS 10.4.10 which has been operating the last couple of months.

I had a problem with the printer set up utility not opening the printer utility.

I am not sure if this is a OS or an Epson problem.

I reset the printer to a reset everything and now all I get is when I go to the printer browser and highlight the stylus photo 1280 to add I get the message:
A Que for this printer already exists do you really want to create a new que?

Cancel or continue

The application printer setup utility quit unexpectedly.

The printer shows on the system profiler.

Stylus Photo 1280:

Status: Idle
Print Server: Local
Driver Version: 5.0.0-beta2
Default: Yes
URI: usb://EPSON/Stylus Photo 1280?serial=W70L10412222315360
PPD: EPSON Stylus Photo 1280 - Gimp-Print v5.0.0-beta2
PPD File Version: 5.0.0-beta2
PostScript Version: (3010.000) 705
I have reinstalled the software and drivers ran disk permissions and disk warrior.

I must be overlooking something obvious any help would be appreciated Printer set up utility shows the stylus 1280 my utility at the top is grayed out and I can’t check nothing in the utilities ( nozzle check, cleaning, ink levels and etc.

I have downloaded drivers also the Epson printer driver 1.9aA 11269 .
Thank You
Dick

Hello everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone can help. I have the same problem as above, and so I've followed the steps outlined in the last post (which were very clear and helpful), but it hasn't seemed to help.

I now have the option of selecting "Epson FireWire" in the Printer Setup Utility, which wasn't there before, but when I select this option no printer becomes available to add.

Anyone experiencing the same, or able to help?

Much appreciated.

I believe the Intel drivers --you have an Intel Mac-- are a bit different. You do not need to go to *More Printers*. Just choose the Epson driver from the *Print Using* menu.

It used to be that Epson needed to create a separate printer for each paper size/type. The new scheme only creates one printer. The paper size/type options are found by using the Page Setup option when you go to print.

printer problems with Epson seem to be driver problems of os 10.4.10
I have a new Mac Pro running ox 10.4.10 and am also having trouble printing with an all in one epson cx4200. I have been looking at macfixit.com and found a discussion that said that the mac os 10.4.10 has caused a problem with printer drivers (especially Epson). It seems that although the printer shows up in the print dialog box, actually the computer is not able to recognize the existence of the the usb connection. With a epson cx4200 all in one, I found that I could scan (so the usb port was identifiable for that function) but could not print. The printer acted as if it were going to print, showed a percentage, but nothing happened. When I looked into it further, I found that there was no functioning plugin in the libraries folder. I am still waiting for Epson to get back to me. I believe that the driver that they are recommending on their website does not function for printing with 10.4.10 with my computer
It surely is frustrating.

Interesting. I just upgraded from a G4 to an Intel-based iMac 24" last week and am having a similar problem with my old trusty Epson 1280. I cannot access any of the special print options (borderless and minimize margins specifically). Epson USB never appears in the printer browser area. I sent an email to Epson on Monday (1/7) but have yet to hear anything back. I can print (my Epson is connected via an Ethernet hub) but just not access the special print functions the way I did with the G4 (PowerPC).

Okay, now I understand what Matt Broughton meant. I am used to the old way where you had to install each of the types of printing setups (borderless, minimize margins, etc.) one at a time. But now you just add the Epson 1280 to your list of printer and then if you open your document and select "Page Setup" and then select the Epson printer, a slew of print options opens up (including borderless, minimize, etc.). At first, I didn't see them because they are submenus under US Letter or US Legal, etc. I tried this in Acrobat, InDesign, and Word to make sure these options are available in other types of software, and they were. Whew.
