I'm using a PowerBook G4 10.3.9, Netgear router and I've spent about 12 hours with Lexmark support attempting to get my X6570 printer to work wirelessly with no success. I get to the same point you did and under Lexmark Network in printer utility there is no choice. Works fine through USB but not wireless. Apple says it's a Rendezvous issue. Lexmark support in India keeps "escalating" the issue while their support in Canada keeps telling me it won't work with 10.3 regardless of what the printer's system specs say on the box. I've been working with Lexmark for 12 days on the problem and I'm going to take the printer back to the store. I don't need to pay for wireless printing that doesn't work. Lexmark support Canada says I need to upgrade to OS 10.4 which they don't understand costs money. Even then, it's no longer available through Apple since 10.5 is due out in three days. I can't imagine why this problem occurs three years after the Rendezvous announcement or why Apple or Lexmark can't just tell us it doesn't work (or fix the dam* problem!!!) without hours of support phone calls and hold time. If anyone has a solution, I'd love to be able to print wirelessly but I figure I'm already paying a $70 premium for the printer's capability and don't want to add another $130 in OS upgrade to the cost. I'll live with USB for that. Thanks.

I have made the lexmark x4530 work on my system. When I installed it, I had a bit of trouble getting it to work as well, but I didn't realize other people were having the same problem. When I installed it, I rand the setup disk, and just follwed the directions, but some parts of the directions left me to make a bit of a leap in order for it all to actually work.

The part of the connection where you must disconnect from your wireless and connect to the printer's wireless "network" is a bit confusing, in order to set the desired settings for it to work on the network. Once your wireless settings are in place, you still have to find the printer in Bonjour and connect to it through there. Only after all of this is done (cross your fingers), is the printer finally on the network. Sorry I can't be more specific with the steps, I did this about a month or two ago, and am recalling the steps from memory. I don't want to have to go through setting up that system again. I'm just glad that it works.

All in all, the setup is very awkward and not very straight forward. I hope this helps out.

On a separate note, I ran into a strange occurrence where after my printer was up and running, it stopped seeing the network (flashing orange wifi indicator). I tried reinstalling, etc. and nothing worked. Out of frustration, I decided to unplug the system to see if I could find the mac address on the network card and try a more direct connection or to give that mac address specific permissions through my router. After pulling the power and network card and writing down the data I wanted, I plugged it back in, and it turned it on. It worked like a champ from that point forward. I'm not sure if it was the physical pulling of the power or the network card that helped resolve the hiccup, but it worked for me. Again.. Hope it helps someone out there!

i am a similar but different problem. i finally figured out how to get the printer recognized, but now any application i try to print from quits "unexpectedly." this is, as far as i know, a driver problem that is being addressed by lexmark. to get the printer added, although it doesn't do much good, try adding through the ip address tab instead of the network or more printers tab. use the ip address the printer has through the router and you should be good to go... at least it worked for me.

best of luck,

-ryan

I just wasted my entire saturday trying to get the lexmark X4530 to work with my macbook with Leopard. I'm now boxing it back up and taking it back to walmart. I can't believe that my older Z705 lexmark printer works great with my airport express, but this newer wireless printer can't do anything! Very frustrated, but happy to get my money back:-)

Hi,

Have any of you tried to go into System Preferences > Network > and there, Location = Automatic > Show = Airport > AppleTalk > Make AppleTalk Active = Check > Configure = Automatically.

I had to make "AppleTalk" active for my HP to go 'Wireless', it may also work with the Lexmark too.

(What is AppleTalk? I have no idea. Except it seems to be how some Printers talk to the Computer and visa-versa)
