How can I hide/rename a URL in an Email ?

In Mail, you can use the Add Hyperlink found under the Edit command in the menubar.

HOW do you do that? I clicked on Add Hyperlink...in the Edit menu. I put in the URL. All that happened was that it put that whole URL into my email. Then I typed the name that I wanted to rename the link to in the email and highlighted it. Then I click on Add Hyperlink again and put the URL into that box. It LOOKED like the rename was an active link in the email that I sent to both myself and to my husband's computer. NEITHER email was able to access the web site using what looked like the renamed link.

So would you mind listing all the steps, starting with opening a New email?

You seem to be one who knows a lot about the Mac. Can you help me? A number of people have looked at my question, but no one has answered it yet.

Please tell me all the steps involved in renaming a URL in an email. I did what you said...I clicked on Add Hyperlink in the Edit menu, but all that did was enter the URL itself in my email. It did not give me an opportunity to choose what I wanted it to look like on the email. Am I supposed to do anything else? I tried entering the text as I wanted it to appear on the email and then highlighted it. Then I tried the Add Hyperlink again, and it LOOKED like it was going to work. It showed up where I had highlighted it as a link. However, when I sent that email to myself and to my husband, neither of us could connect to the URL's web page by clicking on the link. It did open Safari, but it said it wouldn't connect to anything.

Maybe I'm not selecting the right part of the URL. It works perfectly when I copy and paste that part of the HTML code (the URL) into the Add Hyperlink box when the URL show up instead of my rename. I would think that putting that exact same thing into the Add Hyperlink box would work when I highlighted the words that I wanted to show up on the email, but it doesn't, and it's the EXACT same URL because it's what worked when that URL is placed into the email via the Add Hyperlink menu.

What am I doing wrong? I hope you can help me because no one else is answering my question although 16 people have looked at it.

Hi,

As you were composing your email message, did you use the cursor to highlight some text already typed, and then use Edit/Add Hyperling, and then further paste in the URL? This should turn the highlighted text into a hyperlink.

Was your attempt in a new message, and is your Composing Preference set to use Rich Text?

Yes, I did that...typed the desired text, then highlighted it. Then I pasted the URL into the Edit/Add Hyperlink box. This was in a new email.

I tried it just typing "Amazon.com" and highlighting it, then going to Edit/Add Hyperlink and entering "http://www.Amazon.com" That worked okay, so there must be something wrong with what I'm putting into the box. What I am using is a "redirect" link on Amazon.com. Their associate software builds the link for me, and if I put the link into the Edit/Add Hyperlink box (without assigning a rename), that link itself shows up in the email...and it does work. It's just something wrong with how it recognizes that it's supposed to go to that web page.

Rather than putting the link online to the discussion group, I will email you the link built by Amazon.com and maybe you can tell me if I'm putting the wrong thing into the box. I have tried every way I can think of to do it, but it will not redirect to the page I have designated on Amazon.com.
