Pioneer 108 dual dvd read/writer

I have been recommended the Pioneer 108 dvd/cd reader/writer for my G4.

My questions are:
Is this drive suitable for self installation in my G4?
If so, where can I find information on installation?
Does it need separate software to run it?
Can I leave the existing CD drive in the computer or does it have to be replaced, and is there any advantage of having a CD and a DVD drive together in the computer?

What model G4? Only MDD G4's can accomodate 2 drives - some others will, but only with case modifications.

The DVR-108 is now an old model - get the DVR-109 or the DVR-110, ($50 or less online) either will be supported in Tiger w/o any additional software.

You can read owner reviews @ xlr8yourmac's Drive Compatibility database.

Your owner's manual has clear installation directions, or go to Apple's "Customer Installable Parts", choose your model G4, and choose the optical drive PDF or QT video.
