Trouble connecting to a Dell 2007FP monitor

My office uses Dell equipment so they bought me a Dell monitor to use with my MBP. The monitor comes with cables to connect either using VGA or DVI-D. I connected it to my MBP using the DVI-D cable and connected to the monitor first then the MBP. I cannot get these two to work together.

First, I am trying to mirror the displays and I cannot get the picture on the Dell monitor to fill the screen. While I am able to select separate settings for my LCD and the Dell monitor, no matter what setting I use I wind up with a picture that is the same height on my 20" monitor as it is on my MBP. I have a 20" off brand monitor at home and I have never had this problem, althought on that monitor I connect through the VGA port and use the VGA to DVI adapter.

Second, and more strange is that whenever I connect this monitor I lose my ability to connect to the Internet. I am connecting via airport. I show the same strength of signal but I cannot pull up any web pages at all. No one else in the office is having problems with their Internet and I have isolated it down to the monitor as the cause because as soon as I disconnect it from my MBP I am able to load a web page just fine.

Does anyone know why I would have this kind of compatibility problem with this Dell monitor? I have used many other brands of monitors before and I have never experienced these issues.

If you're mirroring displays then they both need to be the same resolution; the standard 15" MBP resolution is 1440x900 and the 2007FP is 1680x1050, so the Dell's screen isn't going to be filled up. Either turn off mirroring and just use it as a second display, or see if the monitor has an option to stretch the image to fill the screen; it'll look a bit blurry, so I'd suggest the first option as being more sensible (and I've never really understood the point of mirroring unless you're doing a presentation).

As to the networking issues, I have no idea -- I can't think of any reason why it would happen, so I'll leave that for someone else to puzzle out. 🙂

I have also the same problem.

I use a monitor Dell 2000FP together with a Macbook Pro, and wireless connection to the internet. The connection breaks down when I use the external monitor and works again when the mac is used stand alone.

There are also a number of strange behaviors: eg, if I open the lid (with monitor still connected) internet works, but slower.

Another weird (but useful) feature is that I am able to connect to the internet (at the right speed, and with lid closed) while using the Dell if I turn the resolution of the monitor down to 1280x1024 (the best one is 1600x1200).

All of this is sort of crazy, but I do not see how to correct this otherwise ...
