ioreg hogging up processes

hi, I have recently started noticing istat pro display multiple instances of ioreg taking upto 32% cpu usage each. and that has been seriously affecting my performance. I can't figure out what is causing it as in activity monitor, ioreg instances keep popping up and disappearing. I know I recently installed coconut widget and coconut application. are they known to cause such an issue? please help.
