iTunes freezes moments after it starts downloading purchases.

One album I pre-purchased didnt download on the release date so I downloaded it Tuesday afternoon after checking purchases and believing my first order didnt go through.

Could this be the problem?

Every other aspect of iTunes is okay, I have to check for purchases before I get a problem

I'm having exactly the same problem after upgrading about 160 songs this morning. iTunes is freezing after every download or two.

Happening here as well. I'm checking for the actual files, they are in there with the new .m4a extension, the .m4p protected files are there and I"m thinking there's some sort of lockup when it tries to either delete or move the replaced files to the trash or desktop folder.

me too! trying to upgrade ~100 files to itunes plus, and it keep crashing right at the point that itunes should delete or move the older files onto the desktop.

Same problem here. I've been having this problem since 7.4.1 or so and 7.4.2 did not resolve it. The files get downloaded into the Downloads folder within my iTunes Music folder, but iTunes then hangs and the process never completes.

Well, I'm glad to know I'm not crazy. I just upgrade some 40+ songs to iTunes Plus songs, and after every download iTunes was freezing. I thought it was me! I just sent an email to support. Hopefully this gets fixed soon! I've had other problems with DRM-free music, most recently not being able to make ringtones for my iPhone out of them, but that now works.

    I am using iTunes 7.4.2.

Same problem here... tried removing the itunes.plist however as soon as I performed "Check for Purchases" and the first few upgraded songs started to download, iTunes would freeze.

I too am having the issue - iTunes plus content purchased - now during downloads iTunes freezes. Have to manually force-quit and restart. Please advise.

I sent in a support email through the iTunes support page: https://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/download/

I suggest you all do the same, as I've been told I will receive notification from Apple when the problem is resolved. Here's what the support person sent me:

    Dear Jason,

I'm sorry you are experiencing difficulty with the iTunes Store.

Apple is currently working toward a resolution for the issue you have reported. You will receive an >email after the matter has been investigated and further information is available.

Thank you for your patience. Apple wants your iTunes experience to be as enjoyable as possible.

I had this same problem two days ago; finally managed to resolve it by doing an entire Library rebuild. The steps:
    1) I realized that iTunes was moving some songs to the correct folders in my library after download (all iTunes Plus tracks being upgraded), but failing to update the iTunes Library file or iTunes Library.xml.
    2) I exported my playlists, quit iTunes, and renamed the above two files.
    3) I relaunched iTunes (to a blank library), and then dragged my iTunes Music folder (sans Downloads) to the iTunes window and let it rebuild the library, then re-imported my playlists.
    4) I had to reclassify some video files as TV Shows (they showed up as "movies") but otherwise all was well.

This was after trying all the "canned response" answers and some other not-so-obvious ones like permissions, disk util, etc.

    Hope it helps!

I've been having connection problems primarily with iTunes Plus since they started reducing the price. Now that seems to be partially working, but I'm unable to purchase anything - iTunes Plus upgrades or full song purchases. I'm told "check your network connection".

I just hope Apple is taking this situation seriously and working quickly towards a resolution. We've seen this problem in the past, and it usually corresponds with major promotions or upgrades to the store. I wonder if the load on the store has increased dramatically since lowering iTunes Plus prices?

    Waiting oh so patiently...

Here's another "me too." My iTunes Plus upgrade is less drastic than others mentioned here ... only 28 songs, but I can't get any of the transfers to complete once the process of upgrading begins.

    Podcasts, thankfully, are not affected.

I received an update from the iTunes Store analyst - they said that they are aware of the issue and are working on a fix.
