Camera will not save pictures to phone after snapping photo

It looks like my camera is taking a picture... but then when you go the camera roll it's empty.

I had cleared a previous camera roll of a bout 125 pictures... then the problem started.

However, I reset the phone, have done two restores, checked for some funky sync configuration. Turned on sync, tried it, then vice versa. It will upload from my computer via sync... it's only saving pictures that the camera takes immediately.

I've taken roughly over 2,000 photos with this phone already.

Did # 1 No Joy, Did #2, Camera works again. Now I have ringtones that are there, but don't work, I no longer get a ping when I get a text message, have songs that I bought thru itunes that are there but don't play. Oh and the Guys at the Apple store were no help. Told me the problem was my data, not the iPhone.

this problem (pics dissapearing in the roll) appeared 4 days ago, after many months of successful picture taking. I took the phone to the store, where they simply gave me a new phone. after I synced, the problem was back. i repeated this process again. (yes they gave me another phone), BUT THEN, the genius bar rep told me they wouldnt give me another phone, I must have a virus on my computer. Ive synced the phone, and the problem hasnt come back,. BUT I DIDNT SYNC PHOTOS, thinking that the corrupt file or virus must be in the photos. a day later I am still ok but want my pics back on the phone. I dont understand why I need to restore from backup, if I dotn mind losing my sms, notes, and settings, wont future syncs just restore my calendar and contacts from outlook, and music from itunes, so not restoring from backup seems very viable for me? Can someone tell me?

I found a different way to keep all your settings (from a back-up) and restore the camera functionality.

1. Make sure you sync your phone so you have the most current back-up of your information.
2. Click on the Restore button located in the Summary tab of iTunes.
3. After the phone settings are restored, DO NOT restore your personal information from a back-up, instead eject the iPhone and take a photo. The photo should now appear in the camera roll, like normal.
4. Attach the phone to the dock and import the photo into iPhoto (I did not delete the photo from the phone).
5. NOW restore your personal information from a back-up through iTunes.

I hope that makes sense. The camera is currently working again for me. I’ve taken several photos after syncing and they haven’t disappeared, yet.

Thanks jkeegan - I tried your method of manually deleting the photo pref file prior to erasing and restoring from backup and it worked like a charm. (On a mac, it is the first mdbackup file sorted by date after syncing, in users/-/library/app support/mobile sync/backup)

My camera is back online and all of my settings and data are intact. Thank you!

Solution #4-The Genius' Solution

My phone was exhibiting the same symptoms, white empty thumbnails, didn't save the pictures, etc., but #1 and partly #2 didn't work, so I took my phone to my Apple store. The Genius backed up my phone, then restored it using #2-aka, didn't save my data. Then, he restored it again, this time from the backup he had previously made. For some reason, despite returning to the same backup that was giving me the problems, applying a clean OS, then replacing the backed up files back on, fixed it. I would try this "Solution #4" before ALL others.

Hey Apple! -- me too -- fix this.

I unloaded about 200 photos that I had taken over the holidays and now mine is doing the exact same thing. I thought I had taken several photos, but when I went to look at them -- the photo album contained "No Photos". After taking a photo going to the photo album -- I see a blank thumbnail. But when I go home and return to the album, I see "No Photos". iPhoto also sees nothing.

I thought I might have run out of space to save photos, so I deleted some podcasts and music -- it did not help.

I had the same problem, hard reset the phone, synced it as a NEW PHONE, and it was fixed and hasnt returned. I lost my prefernces, but there arent many, and everything else just synced and was good as new. From my perspective, its really easy to fix like this, and painless, other than the 10 minutes reseting my prefs. The guys at the Genuis bar tried to tell me I had a virus and they werent going to help, had to find this forum and this solution to save myself

APPLE needs to fix this in the next software update.
