Camera will not save pictures to phone after snapping photo

I agree with everybody this is a glitch that Apple should fix pronto- we should be able to empty our photos off our iPhone- for those of us who like to keep a "clean" phone,....

I didn't want to do the deleting of files either and just did the simple restore solution, take photo while phone still in before restoring personal settings, and then restore settings. Voila,...back and running. Yay!! Especially since the camera is so fun and good in iPhone I stopped bringing a camera with me anywhere since I bought it. Thanks for everyone's involvement. Now go go gadget apple and fix'er up okay? We believe in you!!

rsturg, i think you are on to something with your solution. i didn't have a clue on how to proceed with solution #3 plus i did not want to risk losing valuable text msg info. i did find that mbackup file but without having any computer programming under my belt i was at a loss of direction. just as i began to feel as if the riskier solutions were my only options, i ran across your entry. so i left the file where it was in the backup folder and reset my phone as a NEW PHONE as you suggested. afterward, i checked to see if the camera function was operational and capable of retaining pix - it was! but then there was a discouraging shock felt when i saw that all my text msg and mail account history had gone missing along with all my personal settings for the phone. I was almost about to shed a tear when i decided to restore my phone using one of the backup options from a previous synchronization. then like magic, all my text msg and mail history returned. and to make things even better, the camera still worked and was saving my pix to the camera roll just the way the mac gods intended it to. now my fingers are crossed with the hope of never having to experience this glitch again as well as with hope that apple will solve this in the next software update. i love my iphone but this issue sure was a buzz kill. thanx rsturg.

I never had this glitch until the other day. I have, since I bought my iPhone almost a year ago, taken 4-5 pictures a day and deleted them at the end of everyday. (It's an OCD thing involving making sure oven nobs are turned off. Don't ask.) Anywho, I had taken two pictures and left them on the iPhone for a few months. Yesterday, I accidently deleted them and, voila, the glitch happened. My hypothesis is that it some how involves either 1) length of time a picture is on there and/or 2) if a picture is left on the phone over the course of multiple syncs but is not synced back to the host computer. I don't know if anyone can verify this, but it's just a thought.

worked like a charm! didn't need to delete the mdbackup file. just followed your instructions and presto! Thanks a mil. It ended the frustration and my cam is working right.

The first time I experienced this problem was about a month ago. I found this thread and applied Method #1 which worked that time. Yesterday I had the missing photo problem again and Method #1 didn't fix it so I tried Method #2. That restored my camera function but now I have lost my contact file with several hundred irreplaceable phone numbers. Then I tried solution 3 of deleting the image backup "f1b4..." backup file and syncing with the altered backup file. It I have only one backup file and my contact file is gone forever. What am I doing wrong here? Is there any way to recover a previous version of my contact file. I use yahoo for my desktop contacts and it has email addresses but not phone numbers. Help!

Well, that's that, in case you haven't tried it, version 2.0 of the iPhone software fixes this issue (at least for now, let's all remember this problem started with update 1.1.4 I believe).

Still spending time going over all the new stuff with 2.0, hope everyone's having a good time doing the same! MobileMe seems to be just shy of a full deck of cards, but they seem to be working hard on it...

I went on vacation to Disney World last week. I was using my iPhone the entire time for photos. All of a sudden, all of my photos were gone and could no longer take pictures at all. The next day, my wife's iPhone did the same thing!!!

The same thing happened with my wife's phone about 4 months ago, Apple said it was a hardware problem and replaced her phone. Same issue popped up on her replacement phone.

Now, I find out my boss at work has the same problem with his.

This is not a coincidence, this is a bad bug. Please give us a fix!!! I lost about a hundred priceless photos last week. What did I learn? You cannot rely on Apple products!!!

When the issue first occurred with my wife's phone a few months ago, Apple said it was hardware related. Someone else posted a reply on how you could SSH into your phone and correct the permissions (root of the bug which Apple will not acknowledge) on the photo directory. This will restore your photos which have been "lost".

I am looking for that post, but having no luck finding it. I really want my family vacation pics back!

But most importantly, I have learned not to trust the iPhone for really import things, like organizing my life. I am *very, very* disappointed in Apple right now!!

No, version 2.0 does not fix the problem. In fact, it just started for me after the upgrade.

However, I think the problem is related to using iLiberty to Jailbreak the phone. I used to have mine jailbreaked on 1.1.4 and encountered the problem, but then I simply could go to the affected folder on the phone and fix the permissions manually. The problem disappeared, until I just updated to 2.0. Now, the fun part is that the Erase Content method takes ONE HOUR, cause apparently version 2.0 of the software does a total un-recoverable wipe of the phone.

Well, no. this is not true.

The bug hit me while using the camera. I had about 100 or so photos. Took a shot of my kids playing at Disney World and went to view the photo I just took. The camera app crashed, took me back to the home screen and when I tapped the camera again all of my photos were gone; empty roll. I tried taking another photo and it acted like it took the picture, but nothing in the roll.

I'm doing the 2.0 update right now, but seeing as how this issue pre-dates 1.1.3, I don't have a warm-fuzzy feeling about this getting fixed in 2.0. Especially since Apple still refuses to even acknowledge that a bug exists.

No, I have never jail-breaked any of my iphones and all of them now have broken camera software (I have 3). My boss never jail-breaked his phone, and his does this.

It is a bonafide bug that Apple is refusing to acknowledge.

Also, note that the fixes which involve using SSH on your phone technically violate the license agreement. As such, I've also intentionally not done this.

I am very technically savvy and use SSH daily for Network Engineering tasks so it is not for fear of the process which keeps me from doing this.

What keeps me from doing this is simple: Apple needs to acknowledge the issue and fix it!!!

I concur, 2.0 didn't fix the problem for me. However, the Facebook app from the iTunes App Store is able to store photos, which it must do before uploading them to Facebook. Even more evidence that this is a bug in the native iPhone camera app that needs to be addressed.
