iTunes won't sync music to iPhone

I am an owner of a new 8G iPhone, running on Windows XP. Some of my experience is good, but I'm having a couple of major issues.

Main issue: I can't sync my music. I try, it starts, I have enough room, but about 10 seconds in, my status bar reads, "optimizing photos for Joe's iPhone" then nothing else syncs. A minute later, the iphone is bumped from iTunes, and I have to restart to get it recognized again. Nothing I have tried works.

Please help, I want to love this thing.

I am having a similar problem, Although my problem extends beyond music. My phone will not sync at all. I plug in my phone and begin the sync.
both the system and the i phone show that they are syncing, however, nothing happens I tunes just spins its wheels saying that it is syncing. Through the diagnostics panel in I tunes every time is shows that the I phone inst connected even though it is clearly displayed in the i tunes interface.

Through all of my trouble shooting I have found only one thing that fixes the issue. Sadly it only fixes it momentarily.

I have had to delete the library.itl file in the i tunes folder. Once I have done that I can import an XML backup of my library and start all over again, the phone will sync BUT, it will only sync 2 maybe three times before the problem resurfaces. The best I can guess at this point is the library file is corrupting itself. I am just guessing here. it is not hardware related I think I tunes needs to be patched.

Hi! I'm not sure whether the problem I'm facing with my 8G iPhone should be disclosed in this group.
The thing is that, even though my iPhone once has fully synced with my itunes, I no longer can access my iPhone when it is connected to my computer.
I mean, it looks connected, I can visualize through the itunes all the musics inside the iPhone, but all I can do is look at the music inside of it. I cannot take them off my iPhone or put them in.
Note that there are still approximately 4G free in my iPhone.
Would somebody know how to "unlock" the iPhone in order to allow me to put musics/videos/podcasts/playlists in or take'em off?
Thanks in advance!

With your help I was able to get it to work.
In the I-Tunes Program
1) Click Summary File
2) UNCHECK both sync boxes in the options area
click on apply

Click on the Music File
1) Uncheck everything on this page
click apply
2) Click on SYNC MUSIC
3) Click on SELECTED PLAYLIST
4) Click on the selected playlist.
click on apply.
wait a second until your SYNC button appears and click on that.

It worked for me.
Good luck.

I was having the same problem, You need to "authorize" the computer you are using.

Go to iTunes

Click Store > authorize computer > enter your apple/itunes id > authorize the computer then go back to summary and Sync it.

It worked for me, however the newest update completely erased my music/videos/podcasts/etc.. so be careful and backup before you do the most recent update.

good luck!

I was having the same problem as some of the people above -- I could sync everything but music, and only on my PowerPC Mini -- synching music worked fine on my MacBook Pro. It was intermittent -- it always seemed like after an hour or two of trying, it would sync eventually.

This I followed the suggestion above and authorized the computer I was on, and that did the trick. The fact that worked is weird, because I've used this same computer for years, and had been buying and playing music on it during that entire time. At this point, it's working, but I can't say if it's fixed long-term or not, because I've gotten it to work briefly before.

If I had to take a guess, I would say that my iTunes library itself is probably corrupt -- I also have problems with the wrong artwork showing. My guess is that my next search will be on how to rebuild the library file.

Well, I can't say that the authorization fixed it, because right now I can't sync and I've already tried authorizing. I'm sure that if I clicked "Don't sync music" it would actually complete the sync. However, since Apple seems to have decided that "Don't sync music" really means "wipe out all of the music that it took me hours to sync on to my phone the last time" (FYVM Apple), I'm very hesitant to do that.

It may be a corrupt iTunes database, as suggested above, but I don't think it has anything to do with individual songs being corrupt. Even when there are only 3 songs to sync, all just bought off of the iTMS, it still chokes.
