I've had this problem with this camera for a year and a half, maybe 2 now. I griped to Apple Support and even submitted a suggested workaround and they totally ignored me - didn't even get an auto-response.
So, more than a year after I submitted my suggested workaround, I'm posting what I've done to make mine work - maybe it will help get your video loaded for editing as well.
You need to follow this process exactly. If someone interrupts the process by clicking on the keyboard or stopping the import, you need to restart the process from the beginning.
1.) Reboot your system with HC90 off and disconnected from your firewire cable
2.) Once you are at your desktop view, hook up your firewire cable to your camera
3.) Power on your camera and press the selector slider until you are at play/edit
4.) Start your iMovie app
5.) Create a new filename for your import (I'm not sure if choosing an existing one will work or not, I seem to recall not)
6.) Wait for about 10 seconds so that the software and camera sync up
7.) Ensure that the mode selector on-screen is set to the camera icon and not the scissors.
8.) Select "import"
That's it. Remember, if you interrupt the process or it stalls somehow, you need to start this whole process over. If you leave the cable plugged in and reboot, or mix any of these steps it doesn't work for some reason and it will say that it is playing the video (and you can see it in the camera window), but it will not import. There must not be enough market share for them to care about fixing, as this has been a problem for awhile. Hope this helps someone.
