UNKNOWN caller in Visual Voicemail

Going on 6 days now with any call I receive that goes to Voicemail. It shows up as "UNKNOWN" when viewed in Visual Voicemail.

I'm certain these are not "Blocked" calls/callers - most part are in my address book as long established contacts.

You see caller ID as it rings, listed in "Recent Calls" but something gets lost when it is in Voicemail. Anyone seeing this as well?

You know that's odd, I got a missed call who left a voicemail. It showed the person's name in my recent calls list, but Unknown in the voicemail area. Now I also got another voicemail that showed the person's name. Just to make it a little more understandable. I replaced my iphone on Saturday. The named voicemail was one I recieved before my other phone pooped out. The Unknown was one I recieved since getting the new phone. Could it maybe be something to do with ATT?

Restore didn't fix it. Hmmm...I'm following the idea it may be corrupted file and thus just replacing the corrupted file with a copy of the same, but don't know enough about how the whole process works to buy inot that theory right now. Mainly because the iPhone obviously knows who it is that is calling...shows it on caller ID(and "Recent Calls")...but something between that point and whatever process is taking place for AT & T to post my message - is getting out of whack.

Other ideas?

This is an AT& T issue.

Comes down to AT&T resetting your email preferences completely. They(AT&T) need to do it. Graba cup of coffee and call 1-800-331-0500

NOTE: I did hard reset of network setting and complete restore on iPhone before finding the issue.

You will need to completely reset your VM greeting, password, preferences, etc. and YOU WILL LOSE CURRENTLY SAVED VOICEMAILS. But once that is done, everything seems to be working fine.

Wow, I'm not nuts. I've had this same problem in the Chicago area since about Thursday of last week. I've been through a couple of voice mail resets with AT&T, but not the complete one where I have to even do a new greeting and loss of all messages. I've already recorded all of the messages. Has this voice mail scorched earth reset done the trick now that you've had a day to test it?

I've replaced the Sim card and was on the verge of getting a new IPhone from the apple store, but I wouldn't mind saving the trip to Woodfield and the time to re-setup the phone.

I just had a though, maybe it's nothing. I wonder if it's thing with ATT not getting the info from other cell providers when it comes to the voicmail part. I say this because I had two voicemails. One from another ATT customer (name showed up), and the other from a Sprint customer (name didn't show). Could it possibly be the problem is ATT isn't getting all the info, or the info is getting corrupted somewhere in the transistion of the voicemail process. I don't know, it's just a theory.

I have been having the same issue for some of the callers for the last 2/3 days.

Reading some of the previous posts about this being a potential issue with some carriers not being able to pass the caller id properly , I did a little test myself at home

I left a voicemail to iphone from my home phone , my wife's sprint cell phone and my daughter's tmobile cell phone

The Visual voicemails from my home phone and tmobile phone showed up correctly with the name in my address book

However the VME from the sprint cell phone showed up as unknown.

Clearly it appears to be an issue with some carriers not being able to pass the caller id propely to the ATT visual voicemail app.

Can someone please verify if this happens for a VME from Verizon? Or it it just related to VME's from Sprint

This has nothing to do with resetting the phone. It's NOT anything in the OS of the iPhone. It has to do with an update at&t did to the visual voicemail system. All you need to do is to reset your voice mail on your iphone and this should correct the Unknown caller situation. I think you can reset your voicemail online on the at&t wireless website or just call them.
